got a 2001 yz 250 for my blaster

i just won this silencer off ebay for cheap, so now once it comes in i can finish up everything and all i need is a rebuild. its a dpm silencer never heard of it but it will work for now until i can buy a complete exhaust for it.

So you're using a silencer of unknown quality/ build to fit to your pipe?

Should be interesting to see where that leaves the powerband. I do like the carbon fiber look though.

I'm actually looking a pipe for a YZ250 as well. I bought a left side case for the '89 YZ and plan on putting it back together this week. The rest of the motor is straight, it just needed the clutch actuator arm pivot point back together and not leaking oil. I'm still not sure I'm going to hack the YZ into my frame but I'd like to have the components just in case I decide to.

not exactly ive read some good reviews on the pipe ive just never seen, heard or have any friends that have either so all i have are internet reviews. the pipe is gonna have to be bent, cut and rewelded and when your on a tightbudget i dont see myself hacking up a 150 dollar silencer the first trip. so i think ill take my chances with this 50 dollar pipe until i get the loot to buy a full exhaust system and know the changes im gonna have to make.

3 Wh33l3r Rid3r : are you able to use an unmodded pipe now that you cut the frame?

I'm working on a 89 pro-circuit pipe and a pro circuit USFS spark arrestor silencer right now. The Noleen pipe that was supposed to be best for my Ohlin's kit is virtually non existent. I hear lotsa "informed peeps" talk about hacked up pipes. I don't believe these aftermarket mass production pipes can be that perfect to begin with. They're all a compromise for production cost, engine mods, ease of installation & looks. If I shorten a segment or two 1/8" and slightly change a radius it may harm performance. On the other hand, from my cheap ass, glass half full point of view, I might get lucky and help performance. The 89 pipe I'm doing now will be about 1/4" shorter at the exhaust flange and + or - 1" on the stinger to the silencer. It will exit center of the frame under the seat so I haven't finalized that measurement but I can make it whatever I want.. There is also an exhaust header type joint in the pipe directly below the exhaust flange where the pipe passes back through the frame so I don't have to cut the frame to have a removable pipe.
I could spend a ton of money having a custom pipe made. The builder would use his experience and probably a computer program to get the shape then try to work it around the Blasty frame. Would it be perfect? Only compared lap times or ET's would tell. I'll get more pleasure out of doin it myself :)
I'll do a thread with pix when it's done.
Just sayin that if you think it out you might get decent results. LOL ..then again ya might not...that's why casinos are so popular ...burp!..:)

otis i can use a unmodded head pipe, it will slide in and out of the frame but the silencer pipe will have to be modified just a little bit to fit

im ready to be done but i cant seem to get any friend that owns a welder to take a little time out of there day to let me roll over and just tack the rails up. been 2 or 3 weeks now since ive had all the rails made up so hopefully soon i can get some welding done

i got some goodies in the mail this week. i got the dpm silencer and the front pivot tubes from jj and a for the swingarm and im still waiting on the radiator i picked up this week. also my dad came through this week he got a helluva deal on a hobart 175 welder needless to say its sitting in my shop for now lol. finally got some welding done late this evening just tacked it up for now i want to make sure everything fits just right before i weld it up solid. put the silencer in and zip tied it up close to where it needs to be i wont have to do much modifying to the pipes to get it to fit....here's a few pics

i have a rolling chasis now. welded up the rails and welded in the lower motor mounts and test fitted everything and it fits really good. im still waiting on the radiator in the mail but that can come later. gonna try and get some work done to the exhaust today to make the silencer fit. im thinking ill be putting on the yfz style rear fenders in black later on i think it will set the bike off really well

because that one is off my 450 that im building so i still need it for my other bike and some of the metal needs to be trimmed off for it to fit right and i dont wanna mess it up lol.

man did i buy the perfect silencer to fit, this sucker fits on the stock mounts. i loosed up the mounts on the silencer and they will slide up and down for different mounts so i got it to line up just right with a couple spacers man its getting real close. u can see in the second pic the spacers i used to get it away from the frame. i had to flip the front bracket upside down to get it to mount up to the front silencer mount

hey man lookin great, i love it, i am getting another blaster for 200 bucks not running,i might put a ds350 in it, :) by the one that the other guy did it doesnt look that hard, just gotta get the sprokets lined up and stuff.

got the exhaust done, only had to make one angle cut to make it fit all i have left is one more motor mount and radiator mount and then all i will need is to get the motor built and she will be ready to rip.
