When I put my blaster in gear it goes backwards WTF? HELP! I searched and sum guys said the woodruff key is sheared im not sure how that can make the bike go backwards? Im not sure about these blasters

your timing plate could be moved to much or you have a extermly rare blaster that only goes backwards lol, this prob pops up here somtimes and always gets fixed so dont worry

A 2 stroke engine only has two strokes, up and down. No matter which way the crankshaft is turning the piston goes up and down just the same. The only thing that determines which way the engine runs is the starter and ignition system. If the ignition system is messed up, the kick starter pushes the engine the correct way but as soon as it pops over and "starts" the engine begins to turn backwards.

you have a 99 percent chance that it is the woodruff key on the flywheel. supper cheap part and the flywheel puller is about 10 to 15 bucks. you have to have the flywheel puller to take it off.

A buddy has this same issue with an old 70's model 185cc street/trail in fact that's why he got it so cheap.but yes as said its a woodruff key.

my john deere ride on mower will kick backwards.
if i shut it off with the throttle closed, it will diesel, and re start backwards.

also have had it happen on chainsaws and trimmers, also an 88 banshee we had

my woodruff key sheared off climbing a big gravel hill and i ended up having to drive my blaster back to the truck in reverse. my local shop gave me a new key for free i think the key was for an mxz . the key is a half moon shape and i believe it is 12mm long and 3mm wide bring your flywheel for reference
