So I picked up this blaster about a week ago for my wife. Wanted to have a second bike so she can go riding with me. Just got into riding last month when I picked up a banshee. Pretty new to these reed carbureted two strokes. My experience with two strokes is limited to nitro r/c cars and go peds before these bikes.

Anyways, the bike was in pretty good shape but had been left outside for a little while before being stored in a garage:

The engine has a fresh Wiseco piston and hotrods crank. New stator as well since it had no spark. Haven't broken it in or even started it yet. I want to have it ready to ride before I start messing with it. So far, I've got a new chain and sprockets for it (14/40), new brake pads, tors eliminator kit, and new clutch lever, grips, muffler stay, chain tensioner and guides.

Only thing the bike had done to it was a k&n filter and a CPI pipe. Not sure which one? If anyone can knows how to tell the difference between a standard or BB pipe please share. Carb only had a 250 jet in it so pretty sure that had a lot to do with the lack of compression. I picked up a 270, 280 & 290 main for it when I get it going. Planning to start with a 290 and work my way down.

I still haven't figured out what I want to do about tires yet. I was thinking about going with some aluminum banshee wheels but noticed the rear hubs are different. Does the banshee hub fit with no other mods? The banshee axle looks a bit beefier. What do most people with a stock suspension setup usually go with, 18 or 20 inch tires? I was thinking about just going with some 18 inch so it would keep a stock appearance. Do most people with 20 inch tires usually have a stretched swing arm? Thanks in advance!

I like 20s on the back, 18s limit your ground clearance the banshee hub fits the blaster axle, you just need a extra washer under the nut. you don't need an extended swing arm for 20s. are you running the airbox lid? if not you might go to 310 jets, do yourself a favor and do a plug chop.

welcome to blaster forums.

nice bike. pics of the banshee

Welcome to the forum. A good investment with two strokes would be a leakdown tester. Thats a nice looking blaster. I have run 18's on my blaster and have had issues with ground clearance. For trail riding I would run the 20's.

Yea no airbox lid, I'll see how it does on the 290. I thought the same thing and asked the owner of a local shop what he thought about 310, 320? He said he had never gone that high on stock blaster with just pipe and intake..

Also get rid of that k&n and get a uni or some other type of foam filter. that k&n lets in too much dust. A cpi pipe is a great pipe man. the big bore expanition chamber is huge in comparison to the stock bore pipe. get some close up pix and i should be able to tell the difference

Been to a #340 with a DMC in the cooler weather, but I run 25:1.

I'm going to preserve the oil injection for now. I'm pretty meticulous with maintenance and it's not going to be standing on any wheelies. So that might be why he was recommending a smaller jet?

They make a uni filter that fits with the stock intake duct, or you mean a pod filter?

hmmm hard to tell still. great lookin pipe though. they make a uni replacement filter. works great. but the best set up is a alluminum airbox with uni dualstage pod filter and outerwear box top.

Do most people run both springs on there pipes? The flange on mine only had a little bracket for one spring. That and since the hooks are offset (you can see what I mean in the second pic), I don't know what kind of spring I can use there?

sometimes people drill a hole in one of the cooling fins for the other spring. my pipe only uses one spring. they have ton's of different springs at hardware stores you can cut and bend to your liking

Hmm, sounds like a great idea! I have extra springs for the banshee, they're just to long for that side, but maybe with a hole far enough?

Blaster looks great! FYI (since nobody else mentioned it), you can run Banshee wheels all around on your Blaster if you want. You have to change out the rear hubs and install Banshee/Warrior/Raptor/YFZ rear hubs in place of the stock Blaster ones, but the Blaster's stock front wheels will switch right out with Banshee wheels. No hub change required. The new rear hubs (no matter which other Yamaha quad they came from) will slide right onto your stock rear axle. I:I

I'd recommend a 320 main jet with that CPI pipe and no airbox lid and tune from there. Toomey recommends a 310 main with their pipe, and the CPI will be close to that.

Thanks! Look like i'm going back to the shop to pick up some more mains..... Makes sense though because I read in that pipe shootout thats stickied around here that you can run like a 280 main on the stock setup? Pretty nuts..
