Hey everyone. I'm having a problem with my front brakes. Whenever I press the Brake lever the right tire locks up. When I press the lever it feels like the pads slide forward and lock up the tire.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I currently have the same exact problem on my 99 blaster. This is my first ATV but I've been riding dirt bikes and sport bikes for 10+ years.

I'm clueless on these drum brakes up front.....

ok, ya ol;d blaster brakes are half fossilized they sold old tech. You probably need to strip the whole thing down and reassemble to get them nice and clean and set right. What I do it take the drum off every few rides and rub the pads lightly with a wire brush and the inside of the drum with sand paper.
Make sure the arms on the leverage system are each set on the same spline so that they pull the same distance. get rid of all the dusk etc and put the drums back on, then just hook up the wingnuts onto the cable one or two turns. Put the wheel on and jack the front of the bike off the ground so yopu can spin the front wheels. Now turn each wingnut in the same number of tunrs, start with 4 turns each and check the lever tension and if the brakes are working, tighten just untill just before you feel the wheel binding without applying brakes.

i had the same problem. the person that had my wheeler before them put the drums on wrong. there is a slot in the drum and it slids on to the back of the spindle. if its in right your brake line will be right above the tie-rod. if it iosnt in the slot the drum will rotate forward and lock up the whole wheel.

hope it helps and good luck

Blaner gave some good tips. I had the same problem after the first time I rode mine. Pull off the drums and sand around the inside of the drum and give the pads themselves a quick clean too. That solved my grabbing problem, if it still feels like one side is pulling more than the other then start adjusting the wing nuts a little bit until you are good to go.
