Well this is my first time working on my bike. I have a 2001 stock blue blaster. I am 16 btw. From reading the forum posts and repair Manual I figure my bikes problem is a dirty carb. It starts but only drives with the choke on. You can only push the throttle half way before it dies. Is there any other possible things that I should check? And any pointers?

could be reeds, fouled plug, and half throttle up is right about where the powerband is, could be fowling the plug out, thus running rich? but running it with the choke out runs good?? im stumped, try the reeds like 88 said

to look at the reeds just take the carb off and look at them through the intake. you would not want to take off the cage and need a new gasket if u dont need to. a flash light would help

My dad just ordered a new carb and reeds. I was thinking about
Painting the plastics to make it
Look
Like the 2006 special edition
Blaster. Is painting them even possible? How would I
Go about preparing it for paint? I'll post pics of my bikes and truck project later.

If you ride tight trails with stones, Painting them won't hold up good! Experience here... But is way cheaper than getting new ones! I just used Krylon plastic paint on mine.

yes painting plastic = bad for where i ride too. i bought good plastic paint and everything and still every time i set over my quad i hit the plastic and it scratches it down to the original color

okay, thanks. i was just thinking about sanding, priming and painting with a spray gun. i uploaded photos on my profile called "projects" feel free to look and tell me anything i should do to them.

If you do decide to go ahead and paint your plastics, make your sure to put a few coats of clear/gloss on after paint. It will help your paint last alot longer. Clear/gloss is a protective finish designed to protect your paint. Good luck

Hopefully you can get your father to read this (and other threads here) you don't need a new carb. Just clean the one you have I:I. I prefer Berrymans in the gallon can that has a little basket to hold parts. Completely dissassemble carb including pilot jet. Either soak or spray especially all small passages. It doesn't take a very big piece of crud to plug it up. You would have to ride thousands of hours to wear a carb out needing replacement. New reeds are a good maintainance item. Be sure to use loctite on the reed screws ! It's great you father is working with you on this. If you don't have a Clymers manual, get one. Tells how to do everything I:I

Been two stoking it since 1970.I:I:D
