I wonted to know if you other blaster owners use the clutch to shift up all the time and do you use it to down shift? Herd two diff answers and figured i would ask.and any other thing to know about riding 2 strokes???i:i

Depending on your style of riding and the terrain, combined with your experience in shifting will determine if you need to clutch or not.

Some do, some dont, some will, some wont.

These aren't tractors, gotta wind the piss out of them.
I usually only use clutch when needed. On downshift when I need revs up, WOT upshifts. But because I'm lazy and old, unless I need it, up or down, I just roll off the throttle a little and shift, done.

For me it was just personal preference. I drive a manual full size chevy 1500 pickup and i was used to clutching everytime. Now i later found out that if you wany to keep the revs up and stay closer to the powerband in between shifts you dont use the clutch

Its prob a good idea to use the old wet clutch. Its there so whynot use it, im not gonna lie I never thought peopke just didnt use itt... After rebuildin one of these trannys I can just imagin the rounded gears. It iss all persanol prefrence thoo

I am with Larry here, I only use the clutch when needed, when riding in heavy going, WOT changes, and and where I need to slip the clutch for manouvering.

The function of the clutch is to break the bond between the motor and the transmission, this can also be done by skilfull operation of the shift lever, and throttle control.

Besides , the use of the clutch is very hard on arthritic hands.

When one is experienced and can roll off the throttle to shift between gears, no clutch is needed.

It is just a waste of time and energy.

To those who wish to change gear without clutching, beware, it is just not a matter of just stabbing the lever and ramming it into gear, it takes a lot of understanding of where your revs are and just how much the bike will slow down between changes.

When you get it all together, the only time you may need to use the clutch is when you start and stop.

Will not using the clutch mess anything up or ware out the clutch faster or what and like i said this is my first quad ever!! And i just don't wont to mess any thing up

my advice to you, USE THE CLUTCH!!! your new and should learn. like novis stated when riding quads or anything manual trans it should be second nature to use the clutch when shifting. YES not using your clutch can f@*k Sh!t upp if not done properly and when learning to ride you must master it.

Like larry and Blaaster states it is posibal to shift without the clutch but it takes a good understanding how the shafts, motor and setup works to properly do it without damaging it. These guys are experienced and know what there doing and untill your up there with them.

i would just use the clutch

Being new, not using the clutch would be like not using a condom with a hooker...most of the time it is ok, but it's gonna catch up with you sooner or later.

I use the clutch on my road bike because it won't shift without it, my car won't let me speed shift it either (anyone else notice most cars can't be speed shifted anymore?), but I don't always on my Blaster. I have been riding quads and driving manuals since I can't remember. Now my girlfriend, I haven't told her yet she can shift without clutching...a clutch is much less expensive than replacing/rebuilding a tranny.

Things to know about 2-Strokes, how to do a leakdown test and how to plug chop. Get your tester from a fella named Slickerthanyou (here on BF) and there is tons of info on plug chopping. Just do a lot of reading...pretend BF is the new Playboy, check it out for the articles and not just the pictures. ;)

Your First Quad , Use The Clutch , Learn it , Lear The Bike And Then When Comfortable You Could Try and not use a Clutch , Some people find it Easier to use it all the time Once they get used to Clutching different vehicles or More than just one , I Use The Clutch I'm assuming the Proper way but There Will Always Be Opinions !

yeah u should use the clutch. it helps in other situations and also helps out on hill climbs when u need to clutch it and not just slam threw the gears

It will also get you in the habit of reaching for it when braking hard, it will keep you from stalling out. I:I
