disk brake caliper guard

i am switching out the drums for disk brake hubs on the front. have the spindles on and hubs. but i dont currently have calipers. do i need to keep on the caliper guard or can i run it without. i am not sure if the guard helps seal the bearings in the hub or if i could run into any probs. i have the guard off on one side and i can see where the hub slides up to where the guard used to be.

you meant the metal perforated disk? you can run without that, its just there to protect the disk

alright thanks for the info. went ahead and put it back together without the plates. looks like it should be alright.
