So Im tuning my 34mm carb with my 240 kit and its finally smoking a little bit when you accelerate and running awesome. I check the plug and its a little on the dry side but I hit the cylinder wiht an IR thermometer and the head is about 180 and the cylinder is about 240 degrees. Is this too hot? Keep in mind this is between the fins not on the fins. Is this normal?

Cool I have a 290 main but a stock primary jet should I upgrade to the 30 that came with the vitos kit on the 34mm carb?

ya i think you screwed up when you orderd that kit for a stock carb. and like blasterfreek said you should be way lower, and if you have keihin and them stock carbs are for mikuni so there is one more thing they are not the right jets

I have a mikuni 34 and it uses the same jets as the stock carb. A 290 seems to work great but Im just not getting much smoke. Im probably just going to strap a small 12v battery to the grab bar and install a wideband o2 and see what its doing.

When I ran mine awhile ago it got to about 200 in the deepest between the fins, and it was running way to rich. this was after a hard run. Now it runs about 230 on average jetted a hair rich on 94 octane. running idle will hit about 260 on mine, air scoops are always a great help. Air cooled briggs run 380 stock so if your under 300 id say no worries.
