What is the function of the friction plate with the larger inner diameter and the cushion plate that goes with it? i remember someone, (Awk i think) mention that you can leave something out for some or other reason...what is the story here?

im talking about part no. 9 and 10.

The wave ring puts a small amount of pressure against the pressure plate when the clutch is disengaged. In theory it keeps the pressure plate from chattering but in practice the oil viscosity keeps the clutch from chattering and the wave ring creates a weak clutch fiber disc.... Measure the full size fiber discs on your old clutch and if any of them are of proper thickness, use one in the new clutch kit instead of the thin disc and wave ring. You'll have a full power clutch when you do.

so the reduced holding power is because the smaller surface area in contact with the other plates right? makes sense, suppose if the clutch is not slipping, there is no point to leaving it out. that sicivic

the reduced gripping power of that plate is due to reduced surface area of the friction material.

If your clutch isn't slipping you can reinstall the wave ring and thin disc. If you start doing power upgrades ditch the wave ring and thin disc fr a full size disc.
