clean exhaust

decided to clean up the exhaust while waiting for a new reed valve gasket...
first pic is my makeshift bench grinder got the rust and dirt off with the wire tool, then 1500 grit paper, then some mothers polish... i would like to put some sort of clear coat on it... any suggestions on what to do next?

wanna make it look at little better???? go back over it with 2000 grit went sand paper, oposite direction you did the 1500 with ( i can see the directional sand marks in the pics) than hit it with 0000 steel wool with mothers, than mothers on a clean rag..

ye.. the wire tool left the majority of the marks on the exhaust... thanks for the suggestions on the 2000 grit and the steel wool with mothers, definitely will doI:I

definitally clear it, i did mine like that and just polished it... it looks sad now and hasent even been rained on.
