but both of those R's are very nice

i think i'd go for one of the R's

I'm going to look at the White 250r saturday and may be coming home with that one. I also found a mint 04 Honda 450r with about 4 tanks of gas through it asking 2800. Anyone know of any problems with this year or advice?

I'd get one of the nice 250r's. A Banshee is a lot of fun on the straightaways, but you can do better if you need or are wanting a trail quad. As for the Honda 450, I used to have a 2004 TRX 450r, and while I liked it, it was nothing special IMO. The early model (2004 and 2005) TRX 450r's were slightly underpowered compared to the later models (2006 and newer). They are kick-only start. Be aware that the engine uses a wet-sump oiling system, but it holds less than a quart of oil. If you ride too long with an undetected oil leak, you may blow the engine. This is the case on all year models. You have to check the oil frequently to be safe.

As long as you stay on top of oil changes and valve lash adjustments, a 450r will run a long time with no trouble. Mine was fun on the trails and out in the open, but it lacked the thrill of a 2-stroke powerband and I quickly got bored with it. I'm not buying another sport 4-stroke ATV unless it is a YFZ 450. And I can promise that the 4-stroke engine will not remain in the frame for long...
