Any of you gents run one in your car/truck? I have one that Im putting in my car and im trying to find a worth while antenna and good placement for it. Id planned on a magnetically mount, not too fond of drilling a hole where i don't need to. Any input or experience appreciated.

my dad has one, it was my grandpa's truck before it was his, my grandpa had it for the mines. We always go to channel 19 i think it is, and F**k with the truckers lol. but i think his has a little basket the mounts under the dash and it sets in that.

Yea ch19 is the trucker channel. Mine will be mounted right under the regular radio. Ill be using mine mostly for cop checks up ahead of me on the highway and what not

Magnet mount antennas accumulate water between the magnet and the paintwork and can cause rusting.

They work especially well if fitted to the centre of the roof, as you get all round coverage.

The signal is usually the best when the radio wave has to travel over a flat ground surface.

I prefer to use a through glass variety, no holes to drill, no cables getting pinched in closing doors.

if i were to go magnetic, i would prolly go with lil willy. I've seen a couple people around with them that like em. Not sure if it would fit between my t-tops tho

Hard to see by the pic but the Midland seems the same. You may need to further investigate.

I construct my own.

The antenna attaches to the outside of the windscreen and the cable end sticks to the inside of the screen.

One point is that the longer and higher the tip of the antenna is the better the transmission and range of transmission.

You will need to have the SWR's set on the Entenna. If you don't , you will have poor output and may burn up the radio. I used to have a nice setup pushing 600 watts. It was Just a baby system. Lol.

When you check for SWR always adjust for highest forward power output, with minium reflected power.

So many people strive for a 1:1 VSWR reading at the expense of forward power.

A 1:5 VSWR at 100watts is much better than a 1:1 at 80 watts.

can you actually believe who is on the other end telling you it's safe to do 90 mph ???
i've heard of the po-po using them to tell you it's safe, then nab yo azz !!!

Everything with a grain of salt awk. Its better than nothing. haha and its not 90mph i worry about its 120+
