Got em for a steal on ebay at $30

Also got a bag of OEM stuff today, so i mounted up the magneto completely and lined up the timing marks, new woodruff key for it as well, the old one looked a little nasty.

Shee hubs with rotors are on their way to me, waiting for a set of norman spindles to pop up on ebay, and hopefully this week i can have some extra cash to send to awk for the gsxr setup

Messing around with the engine last night, I noticed that I could only get into two gears, not sure which ones because couldnt go past them in anyway. I decided to investigate this issue.

Removed the shifter shaft and looked thru the hole into the crankcase and found a shim broken in half lying in there....*sigh*Time to split the cases.

Pulled the magneto back off and took out the case bolts to prep for the split.

Setup my tool and went at it

How she looked after open

Even though it looks dirty the crank bearings still feel great and spin smoothly(pretty nice since it is a 1981)

But all the good things ended there..
Pulled the transmission off and set it aside to look into the case first.

If you look closely in this picture you can see one of the roller bearings literally falling apart. The bearing below that one too is 100% siezed

And heres more pieces of the previously mentioned broken shim, and look at all the grime inside the cases.

Two of the three shift forks are also bent and need to be replaced.
The guy that sold this bottom end to me swore that it was excellent, unfortunately i could not test it right away as it did not come with the shifting hardware, sucks when you trust people and they sell you junk....

Now since I have the cases split I am going to replace ALL the bearings in the engine and trans. Have the crank balanced by Ken O'Connor and install a new rod and bearing as well. I was going to send him my jug and head this week but this will obviously set me back a while.

On a good note though, I bought a set of norman spindles yesterday and he told me they would be shipping today!

kind of a bummer seeing that damage, but on the bright side now it'll all be fresh, and you shouldn't have to worry about it!

We were absolutely dead at work today, luckily i brought a few things to mess with while i was there.

First: I was kinda annoyed with how my clutch cover came out when I painted it a week or so ago(had a few runs, visible chips, etc..) so I stripped it down to the metal and did it again. This time it's much cleaner and I went farther with it. After painting the silver and letting it dry, I masked off the YAMAHA in the center of the case and painted that black. How do you all think it looks?

Second: Brought the YFZ calipers in, sanded them down and cleaned them up and painted them as well.

I really like how they came out vs the old stock look

X-3 on frame slugs. Any frame I've seen with holes thru have slugs. I count you need eight slugs. I would thik you could get them welded for $20-30 if you preped the areas. Yeah I know you already painted the frame , but would hate to see your frame crack. That is not a place to cut corners. What will the displacement be with your set-up? What do you expect for that old of a trans?

will be about 510cc. i didnt expect it to be busted cuz the guy swore it was good and shifted well. a buddy of mine has a 1982 IT465 and his trans is still perfect, mine was obviously abused though which sucks lol

small update:
just ordered every bearing in the crankcase, all the transmission pieces i needed(shift forks, shims, circlips, etc), a couple gaskets, bolts, misc sh*t. came out to $212 lol

as soon as everything comes in i'm gonna get this tranny in working order then get up the cash to send the crank/jug/head/piston to ken
