My buddy has a 93 S10 with the 4.3. I'm always askin him when he's gonna stop dropping money into and just get a man's truck, with a V8. Lol he just let's it roll off his back and stands by his S10 soi gotta respect him for that. Grats on the new ride!
I have a 91 that I use as a work beater. gets 18.5-20 mpg depending on the driving that I do.
doing a 350 swap in one of these is really really easy with the parts available. all that you need to get are the headers, motor mounts, a v8 distributor, and then a 350 prom. some exhaust modifications may be needed too. the gas mileage after the swap is usually really good. you just don't have to work that 350 to move it down the road.

well i just f***** up really bad i shaterd the driver side winshield but found one on cl for20 I:I so hopefully some time this week we can go and get it
