Im trying to take apart my bottom end to replace the seals. Does anyone know any good cheap alternates for:
-Tool to hold flywheel when turning nut off
-Clutch holder
-Crank Installer

I tried to get the flywheel nut off tonight, I could hold it still but the nut would not break, are they always that tight?

u dont need a crank installer to replace seals and if u have a air impact gun u can just hold the flywheel with your hand and zip the nut off as far as getting the flywheel off your gonna need a flywheel puller for that

To hold the flywheel you can try a large plumbing strap wrench, but yeah that nut is TIGHT and you will want to put it back on that tight too. NO LOCTITE allowed. A 1/2" drive breaker bar on the socket would give you the leverage you need. You MUST buy a flywheel puller ($15) to remove the flywheel after you get the nut off.

The same can be used on the clutch basket but some people put a penny in the gears to lock it up too. I hear that works well.

All of the above is easier (more leverage) if you still have the motor in the fram, but if you have taken it out the easiest way to do these jobs would be to run the motor down to a local shop and say "pretty please" hit it with an impact gun.

the clutch holder is like 15 bucks, not too bad, the flywheel puller is about the same

the clutch holder has pins on the back to hold the flywheel in place.

overall i thought the tools to do the job were pretty cheap. the most expensive was the crank installer at around 60 bucks. but i like tools and if they're going to make my life easier, i'll buy them lol

Thank you guys for the help. Ive already got the flywheel puller. I also got my manual the other day. From what I could tell in it I would have to split the case to replace all the seals. But if I dont have to that would be great. I noticed my engine was leaking what appeared to be gear oil out of the stator side of the engine. It was leaking pretty good. I built an airleak tester with the help of this site. I performed an air leak test it would not even hold 1 PSI. There was a huge leak at the top left of my stator cover where it meets the engine. Im broke and need to do this job myself. But Im a novice atv mechanic. I need any good advice I can get. There seems to be alot of people that really know their stuff on here. Please help!!!

that would be the left side crank seal leaking

you need to get a whole seal kit. oem stuff is the best when it comes to gaskets and seals. and you don't have to split the cases to replace all the seals. just take the clutch and stator covers off. use your manual it has tips for replacing seals in it. read that manual and study it, the more you know the better. wouldn't it be nice to already know how to fix the problems as they arise. good luck dude keep up the good work

Thank all of you for the help. I thought there were seals on the inside of the case halves too. But after taking another look at my manual I noticed I was looking at the picture wrong. This makes the task a whole lot easier. Im afraid I might have a leak in my case halves seam as well I wont know until I get my left side leak fixed and leak test it again. Im learning slowly. Hopefully I can take this whole atv apart and put it back together by next year.
