i bought a 02 blaster about a month ago...its runs really good and pulls real hard until you hit 6th gear, idk if something is wrong maybe or it just doesnt have the power to pull 6th, it has the original top and bottom end as far as i kno and oil injection block off kit, it has 14/40 sprockets and it has a bill's pipes full exhaust (never herd of them b/4) and it has boyesen power reeds. i bought it with all of this stuff on it already so idk if it is jetted properly or not, im probly gonna tear the carb apart today and check it out. it still does just a tad over 55mph but it just doesnt feel like its wide open in 6th.... so im just lookin for a little input if you guys have any idea on what could possibly be goin on with this POS, thanks
 
took the carb off today and tore it apart, everything looked good and it was clean, i cleaned it anyway then ran out of time, ill take out the reeds tomorrow and see if maybe those are dirty or broke, any other suggestions?
 
main jets a 260, not saying that its not fat enough but id does run really good aside from the sluggishness in 6th, anychance it could be my pipe?

take you airbox lid off and give it a short rip and see how it feels. if it rips then you know you are too fat if its the same its something else. dont rip it for too long though because if it does run good with it off you are probally going to need a bigger jet.
 
dont hvae the lid...was gonna throw a 270 in and see what that does....i still gotta pull the reeds and see what they look like, dont kno if ill have time though cuz im goin to look at a truck today...and yes its lifted with loud pipes....I:I

yeah check your reeds first, even a piece of cardboard as a lid will give you some results. the idea is to take away all the air richening it up and seeing how it runs. runs better = you are too lean, runs worse=too fat
 
i'd say too small of main, quit running it like that before you fry sumthin, get yourself a 270 and 290 main, start with the 290 and work your way down if it doesnt like that, doing plug chops with each one(search and learn how to do wot plug chops),
check the float level while your in there too, could be running outta fuel
top of floats should be 20-21.5mm measured from where the bowl gasket sits
drain the tank, and check/clean your petcock screens too!
ya gotta make sure it's gettin proper fuel flow and level in the bowl before moving on to jetting
 
ive had it for like a month running it pretty hard so i doubt anything is gonna get fried, something woulda came apart by now...
 
Keep the lid off and upgrade to a 340-360 main jet. I run a 360 jet with the lid off and it runs great. Mine used to do the same thing in 6th. I upgraded from a 230 to a 360, big difference!
 
gonna have my wife pick up some mains for me tomorrow and put it back together, do a little testing and see what i can come up with...
 
so i didnt get any jets cause the bike shop didnt have any.....i pulled my reeds only to find out that they were extremely dirty...after cleaning them i realized that they are old and wore out and they are constantly open....is that part of my bogging problem????

put my carb and f**ked up reeds back in after everything was cleaned and it still runs like sh*t.... so is it my jetting? or reeds? or combo of both???? more help guys thanks....

also im running 50:1 premix and running a 260 jet at around 800ft of elevation...i kno i need a fatter jet
 
sounds like the reeds. I would definetly recommend vForce3 reed, $130 is well worth it. I run 32:1 mix in my blaster. Yamalube 2 stroke oil is great, the only oil i use in my bike.
 
i think im gonna keep the 50:1 premix...ive used klotz in it since the day i bought it...it dont run hot so im gonna get new reeds, rejet it and go from there
 
TORS is still on it...think maybe i should remove it and see if that might be a possibility, havent got my new reeds or rejetted it yet but i figure the TORS should come off anyway, so i guess ill give that a shot...while i was riding today i noticed it wasnt just boggin in 6th, its every gear, it basically sounds and feels like its not winding all the way out (tonot getting enough fuel), which also makes me think i need a fatter jet...more help please as im only makin guesses at this stuff and dont kno for sure...thanks guys
