Blaster performance improvements

You ain't seen nothing yet, rechamber the head, fit a good pipe and port the cylinder, and this little "kids toy" will keep with them bigger 4 pokes if not smoke them.

My lads bike is comparativly stock, other than a pipe and it will pull up the front in 3rd gear.

Im really surprised to read that there is so much experience out there for a bike which is really a teenage bike. Well thats what I have said to me at the meetings I go to, " why are you riding a kids bike". I like the Blaster cos I am not huge myself and can throw it around. It doesnt keep up with the 450 Yamahas and others like it, I cant even get a wheelie out of mine, never have..
Anyway, I guess the first port of call is to get the head, ported, polished then do the tests you have outlined, would this be right?

Install this...

And watch what happens!!!

The reason that they say things like that to you at "The meetings you go to",is because they are use to "stock" yamaha blasters, NOT modified ones!
Watch they're jaws hit the floor after the porting and head re-chambering!!!
They won't be talking smack about the "Teenager quad" any more.
A 450 is a machine that is hard to beat, but with the right tuning and light rider, you will do very, very, very good. That...,plus the fact that you didn't spend $9,000 + on a quad keeps money in your pocket. Those "other guys" are going to have fits when they see what a blaster can do.
Remember this: Going fast takes more than than just throttle. 80% if not more,is THE RIDER!

Hi, I was reading about cutting a High compression Squish band on a Blaster head on Youtube, looks impressive, but cant quite see what theyre doing, clearly its increasing compression. Is it removing the machined face back to the head tabs, then recreating the chamber, which ends up smaller, is this right. The Barrel porting i can do myself, but without a lathe and a clear understanding of it...
I reckon as you say it would make a huge difference, but why is it people keep saying about a bigger carb, when clearly re jetting may be he answer. Thanks love reading all your suggestions.

Bigger carbs have their place, but using a big carb on a relatively stock motor is a waste, the stock 26mm or an upgrade to a 28mm is really all that is needed to get a very powerful machine.

Increasing the carb size can cause jetting headaches unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Don't get me wrong there are applications and riding styles that will benefit from a large carby, but unless you have a BBK, ported motor running high octane fuel, a 26 or 28mm carb will serve well.

Hi, so when you say, a 28-26 carb, you are referring to the jet size in my carb or I need a new carb of that size, I guess its the latter.

Not only is the combustion chamber smaller, it is a different shape. The stock head is conical, modded heads are either "hemi" or toridial. Each has benifits and power targets. Search members "Best" and "Joeak47", both have some good info on the heads.

Not slighting any others on here that might have posted info, they came to mind early in the morn .

Stock carby is a 26mm unit, if you mod some you can gain some benefits of a 28mm carb.

Jetting is everything when tuning a stroker.

Hi, interesting, so a 28mm carb is a carb not the jet size. I think I will need to find someone in the UK to do my head re chambering.
