This is my first post. My blaster is not shifting right, i put it in first to get started shift into second and can't shift into 3rd. Eventually I am able toshift into third and the rest of the gears but then I shift down again and can't take it out of third, it takes a lot of work but I do get it out of third but then can't shift into second. I stop to take a look at it and there's gear oil leaking out of the bottom of the engine near the shift lever. I think the crank seals might be bad but I don't know for sure so help me.

What oil and how much is in the transmission?

A dragging clutch, too much oil, and the wrong type can cause difficult shifting!

The shift shaft could also be bent, causing hard shifts, and may account for the oil leak.

Or shift star loose on drum, or other parts of external shift mechinisim worn/broke. Worse case is bent forks or bad gears. Eliminate all possibilities, then split cases.

How do the shift forks get bent, I had the machine sitting for a week after a ride when it was shifting fine and the next time I take it out it's leaking oil and shifting weird so how would they have gotten bent?

Ok....

I just had the same issues on my gf's blaster ehen we got it.Upon buying i i put the rear up in the air to be able to spin the tires and went through the gears and could only get it to shift to third and 1-3 were a PITA to get into with neutral almost impossible.

The bad news is you have to split the cases luckily i was doing a complete rebuild on hers for her to be able to ride and do so reliable and heres what i found.

First the shift shaft was so bent i had to press it out. That its self was causing the leak and part of the hard shifting. The real issues came to a boil when i split the cases and found the shift star had broken and was allowing the star move and clock to one side binding so it wouldnt shift above third.

I replaced the shifter rod and shift drum with one that had the shift start welded on instead of keyed like the one that broke.

Heres what im talking about this is your shift drum the broken area is where a shift star is keyed on the end heres what caused mine not to shift.

Get a manual and set a couple hours aside and split the cases but first check your shift shaft which only requires pulling the clutch cover and clutch. If the shaft slides in and out smoothly its not the problem.

Hope this helps you out bro.And splitting the cases isnt a big deal really. You will need a fly wheel puller bought or made and a clutch tool bought or made no getting around the need for them.
