Thanks

Welcome to the Site !

Most of the time yes if its smoking more than normal then its burning trans fluid or whatever you use on the Clutch side , A Motor tear down is in order to fix that !

Search on here for Tear downs and Rebuilds , Also can check You tube for videos !

If the smoke smells like dirty jocks, it is a gearbox crank seal.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a 2.

Pretty easy fix, but you need a flywheel remover if you do both sides.

ok i have a flywheel remover and i already had the clutch side apart today ftw lol i wish i knew then but thats why the oil was really low in the first place, better to find out now than to have it sieze in the middle of no where! thanks a lot ~Chris

It may pay to pull the pipe off and look up the port to see if any damage has been caused to the piston and rings, by running a lean mix.

Poor crank seals allow more air into the motor which disturbs the air fuel ratio, causing a hotter burn.

It would also Cause the motor to act Boggy and Under Powered , Good News you have a Flywheel Puller I Don't But I need One ! Take some pics of the Blaster man , Everybody likes pics !!

so quick question i was just looking at the seals, still in package and they dont say which one is fly wheel side left or which is right. how can i tell? the only difference is sd on one and sw on the other

"PC" ?

For seal lube I generally slather in 2 stroke oil but I'm getting ready to install the crank when I put the crank seals in so it will SHORTLY be sealed up, not left out for any length of time.

Tear down????? I don't think a tear down is needed for this. Some dissasembly but not a tear down! The motor doesn't even need to leave the quad.

Crank seals I agree are one of the easier things to do! There are 4 thousand write ups on this! I:I

It is not grease that lubricates. it is the oil which is suspended within the grease that lubricates.

I am led to believe that Lithium soap based grease is compatable with just about all lubricants, this may be the reason why it is specified.

Google is your friend

........................................................................................................................................

A grease (lubricant) is a mixture of oil and a soap. The soaps are dispersed into and viscosify oils to form stable gels. Lithium grease adheres well to metal, is non-corrosive, may be used under heavy loads, and exhibits good temperature tolerance. It has a drip temperature of 190° to 220°C (350° to 400°F) and it resists moisture, so it is commonly used as lubricant in household products, such as electric garage doors, as well as in automotive applications, such as CV joints. Some formulations also include PTFE and/or other substances, such as molybdenum disulfide.

• Lithium soap thickened gear grease.

• Contains highly refined mineral oil, anti-oxidation & extreme pressure additives.

• Provides NLGI 00 consistency.

• Designed for high temperature & arduous loading conditions.

• Compatible with mineral gear oils.

• Designed for gearboxes that have operated satisfactorily on mineral oil, where main requirement is to extend both the lubricant service life & maintenance period.

............................................................................................................................................

Whenever I fit an oil seal, I use a small quantity of the lubricant I intend to run to lubricate it.

As Civic says the grease is only going to be there briefly, until it is washed away.

If one really wants to be picky when installing the gear side seal, put the 2 stroke oil of your choice on the inner lip, and the transmission oil of your choice on the gearbox side.
