Opened the air box lid and there was nothing there... Should I be scared? Took compression but my tester has a leak in it so it wouldn't stay still for long but it got up over 100 psi. It's a totally stock blaster also. And i noticed that the previous owner had painted a few areas on the frame I'm guessing to cover up some surface rust or wear. Is that anything to be worried about?

Lots of stuff to be worried about but no more than anyone else who's just joined on here and looking to fix up their ride!

Buy an airfilter. They're cheap!

Buy a leakdown tester AND compression tester (both sill serve you well with a 2 stroke and neither is that pricey)

Paint on the frame isn't a huge deal.... as long as there's not hackjob welds underneath.... Take some pics of the frame in those areas (good clear ones with a nice camera) and post them.

Some people just don't take care of their stuff. I don't understand how you can run without an air filter for so long like that. The welds look fine but i will snap some photos. I'm hoping the engine isn't hurt. It ran fine when i drove it and idled fine too. I was gonna order a stock filter from yamaha unless I should go with another one?

Yea its missing the little plastic cage and filter and screw.

Just curious as of what goes there?

The paint is almost identical to the frame color but you can see the overspray and the completely silver grease fittings give it away too.

And the bumper is bent and looks to be painted also.

Hmmm no booger welds anywhere to be seen. Looks like someone just tried to "spruce" it up without removing anything at all....

You can remove the overspray most likely with a rag and some acetone or similar paint thinner/remover. Be careful applying something REALLY strong like paint remover (aircraft jelly kind) as you can remove the coating on the covers and rest of the frame easily....

Look in the for sale section for someone selling an airfilter to get the plastic cage (and filter if you're lucky) and get a M6 long bolt from the hardware store.

Take a good pic of the front sprocket and post it.

It could just be the angle of the pic, but it looks to me you should be replacing the sprocket and chain set.

No air filter on a 2 stroke is nothing but bad news, it says the previous owner wasn't smart enough to maintain his stuff. Every grain of grit that that went into the big hole where the air filter should have been made it's way through you carb, into you crank case and up into your cylinder. The paint just tells more of the story, the PO also wasn't smart enough to remove a few bolts or understand how masking tape works.

I hoping for the best... I'm gonna run some ring free through it. May help. It wasn't ridden much by the guy I got it from, just around the house so I hope not much debris was able to get in there.
Also I gotta rebuild the clutch and was wondering how hard it was to do? I have a diagram and stuff. Any tips?

This is the sprocket.

Clutches aren't bad.... few hints though!

Soak the clutch fibers in oil/transmission fluid for a day before installing.
File any notches in the outer basket down with a flat file while you have it all apart.
Make SURE you align the dots on the inner basket and pressure plate when reinstalling.
Don't overtorque the small bolts on the pressure plate.
Find the "pointer" on the case that the actuator arm should be pointing at before tearing it apart.
Adjust the clutch when you're done and torque the jamnut on the adjuster rod well before reassembling.
