X2 X2 X2 I feel the exact same way after seeing so many stock bores killing vito's.
Says the guy with Wampus cylinder's on his banshee
*Quad*King*, it's like this. Aftermarket parts have certain drawbacks. If you're willing to live with those drawbacks, there are certain advantages. One of the drawbacks to a BBK (pretty much all of them) is that the pistons are already so much larger than stock, there's not a lot of room for overbores. The BBK's start at 72mm and go; .25 OS, .50 OS, and 1mm OS. You get the factory life plus three possible overbores. With proper maintenance cylinder lives should not be used up that fast...
Vito's casting flaws are HORRRRRRRRIIIIBBBBBLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEE. However, there is a silver lining to that. In leaving all of that casting out there, they left enough material for mild to wild customization. Basically, right out of the box, a vito's kit will not put out as much power as a healthly ported stock cylinder BUT, properly ported a vito's cylinder will roost a stock cylinder mainly on bottom end.... I've rode healthy ported stock cylinders and I'm rocking a vito's BBK. There's a reason why... the BBK has TONS of bottom end power and still revs out where as a stock cylinder is basically trading off bottom for top when you port.
There are other options other than just a stock or vito's... if budget is unlimited so are the choices basically.
Airsal kits do better at passing off heat than steel lined cylinder but you have the drawback of having to pay to get it renikasil'd if it blows.
La sleeve/CT racing kits are a NICE upgrade but pricy.
Getting your stock cylinder resleeved isn't a TERRIBLE idea. It doesn't have the advantage of the updated port layouts but it does have the cost advantage. The resleeve kit can be purchased for about $200 and then you just have labor for sleeve pressing and getting it ported. You do end up with a real sleeper look to it though....
