Hi All,

I was thinking about buying a used beartracker 250 as a second quad. It seems like it would be a good quad for friends to ride who don't know how to use a clutch, etc. Anyways I found a 2003 that needs brake work, seller is asking 900. Does this sound like an ok deal?

What do you guys think of these machines? Any experience with them? Online reviews seem to be pretty good as far as I can tell, but some first-hand experience would be nice.

Depends on the brake work and if you have $900 laying around...

The front are hydraulic brakes and look compatible with every single yamaha product ever made. They use the nissin caliper with the square pad with two holes at the top... The rear brakes however, are a cable drum and notorious for falling apart after some hard use. If you don't care about the parking brake the front brakes will stop the quad fine and can be fixed off Ebay pretty cheap.

Listen to the engine, check the motor oil! Too new and they're trying to hide something, too old and they've just neglected it. Shift through all gears even if you're not going that fast just to make sure there isn't some problem up in 4th or 5th and they're trying to dump it without having someone try 4th or 5th before they buy it.

Other than that, they're like a quadrunner 250 or a honda recon, virtually unstoppable.

It's pretty much the same as a timberwolf, I used a timberwolf 250 4x4 that my friend used to have a few times, it was an excellent machine, you may not think that 250cc is big enough to support a 4wd system, but oh it is.

$900 could be $500 or $600 easy, I'd say that's a good deal. as long as 1 set of brakes work, I would just leave it as is, if it has no brakes, try to talk down to $500.

Make sure everything works on it, be hard on the test drive.

try to talk him down some. my buddy picked up a honda 200 whatever the f it is and it runs like a champ. nothing wrong at all. electric start and reverse for 500 the guy wanted 900 I think. oh wait he had to buy a batter after a couple of months that is all that was wrong with it. it is an exelent beater quad.
