Hey guys,

I know this is a blaster forum, but I'm guessing somebody here can help me with this. My bike has a top end miss. I've checked my ignition , and here's my results

Stator
Red / green 17.0 ohms
White/red to white/green 114.6
Coil spade to spade .4, point 38 is the top of the range, but I'm using a 25$ tester.

Now here's my trouble, plug boot to boot I get nothing.... Am I doing something wrong? I should get something even if its bad boots being as its runs right?

The manual is wrong about testing the coil. Unscrew the plug caps and cut 1/4 inch off the wires. Then screw the caps back on.

What kind of stator?
Pickup gap set right?
Mods and jetting?

OEM stator, checked the pickup it was right. Nothing major, cool head with 22cc domes. Pc pipes, graydon two into one with a 35 pwk. 45 pilot, eek needle, been from 160 to 130 on main doesn't seem to matter.

Are you confirming the jetting with a plug chop each time you change?

Also the stator and pick up don't look to be in the best condition, this is a older j-arm bike. Think it would be better the throw new boots on while I'm at it? The stator will be replaced at some point anyhow . I'm trying to do it right instead of just throwing parts at it. Also has a k&n pod filter.

That's the thing when I pulled the plugs after like a mid to 3/4 throttle run they look great,
After a full throttle run they get loaded up, no excess smoke, falls flat. I know seems like jetting, and that's what I thought too. It may be. I just want to rule out this electrical. The lugs on the flywheel were rusty, the ends of the stator poles were rusty. I got the plug to plug ohm test off hq, but like I said I get none. I'm going to take them off , and test just the wires. Blaaster, I haven't chopped them yet. I planned to when I got closer. Once I go through the electrical I'm going back to square one with jetting, and I'll chop them. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.

It may be that the electricals are fine, a top end miss can be, and often is caused by improper jetting or incorrect plug choice.

I agree Blaaster, I'm running br8es plugs. This two to one may just be finicky. I'm just trying to eliminate this stuff. I'm going to change boots, clean grounds, clean that stator up just for piece of mind. Something I should have did before anyhow. Everything tested good besides that secondary coil. I just thought i may have been testing wrong. Everyone hates the one carb setup it seems. I'm determined to make it work. This is going to be a trail bike. It ran decent with a 52 pilot, and 160 mains before rebuild. A lot of things changed . It had a bad crank in it, previous owner just keep putting pistons in it.
During the build it got a cool head, pro circuits instead if dg pipes. Left side had bad detonation. Passed leak down. Unfortunately no leakdown before rebuild. I suspected they had jetted it up to compensate for an air leak. It may take some time to get sorted out,but I will post what it ends up being. So many threads like these people disappear

The response is always for me to throw it in the trash! Lol. I'm not giving up on it. Problem is I only get to pick at it here, and there. The kids keep me busy working on the two 50's , and the blasty. Dad's stuff is at the bottom of the list. 130 main just seemed small, so that's why I decided to make sure everything was in order. Not a lot of these setups to use as a baselinefor jetting. Most have very small runners. I think they stipped making this graydon awhile ago.

Thank you, I heard it was too. I was told to check it this way. I was thinking I did it wrong.

I've gone through all the electrical, found a lot of rust. This may not have been my main issue, but I feel better having it all cleaned up. I'm going to take the carb into work , and go through it. Hopefully have some luck.

Just wanted to update...after going through the electrical I have a nice bright spark. She starts first kick. I still have some jetting to do , but its getting there. Thanks again everyone.

I hope so! haha. I still want new boots , but I did trim those wires like you said. Now on to the carb, and check the reeds just to be sure.

Ok, so I removed the reeds ( rad valves)these were freebies from a buddy during the rebuild. The reeds look good , but I don't think they will work right with my intake due to the way they are closed off inside. Stocks going back in when gaskets show up.
