okay, i have gsxr brakes on my quad using awk's brakets. the brakes work great, but when i ride it hard for like 15 minutes and use the brakes alot, they eventually get to where they are basically locked up as they heat up, but when they cool down they get loose. does anyone else have or had this problem? please help me guys... thanks

I have Awks set up and havent had any issues! Did you bleed both pistons? If you have air in there and it heats up it will expand. make sure they are bleed correctly.

no, im gonna say its the pistons sticking out, all though i have never had a bad caliper, its possible
rebleed them, with the caliper off the bike, higher than the master, with the bleeders facing upwards, to ensure all the air gets out and try 'em again, then get back to me

thanks guys i didnt even think about the air thing but it makes sense. i'll try to bleed them again. i thought i got all the air out but i guess i probably didnt

bleed the side opposite the line first, theres a small passage between the 2 sides of the piston that is unusually tough to get the air out of, and in my experience is much easier to do with the caliper off the mount, flipped upside down with bleeders facing upwards
i still dont see that as the cause of locking up ???

/\/\/\/\/\ your freind is smoking crack and his brain cells are boiled,
first off your set-up i made came fully assembled and didnt need re-bled, so the fluid in it is still the factory fluid which never boiled on a streetbike going from 150mph to zero in under 4 seconds
and also, anyone else wanna play chemical engineer ???? the only difference between dot3 and dot4 is the temperature range, there is no way our bikes even remotely go fast enuf, or weigh enuf to boil any brake fluid
"myusername" only bought my brackets, not a complete set-up, maybe he can chime in with what fluid he used, since "your freind" the crackhead, knows so much

any of my other 30+ very satisfied customers wanna chime in and tell how my brakes work and customer service is ?????

yeah, i only bought awk08's brackets, i already had a caliper and a master cylinder. and i used dot3 fluid. i'm not sure thats what the brake system calls for, but i didnt think this 20hp quad would generate enough heat in the brakes for it to even matter, considering how it was made to work with a 150hp bike that weighs twice as much.

awk, i'm not sure if you think i'm bashing or something or if i'm missing something, but i'm not man. your brackets are great, they really helped my install. And for this man's customer service.... he's helped with every part of the install of the brakes and even with some other difficulties he's had. the first time i had my quad out on the track, i had some issues with it not running right. at a track where everyone is on 450's, i couldnt find anyone who had any ideas, so i gave awk a call. he helped me get it running right. so in my eyes, awk is one of the more reputable users on this site...

nobody is bashing anyone, well i may have bashed choas's freind a little,
dot3 fluid is what i have used in over 30 of my systems, his brakes just need re-bled, in a certain way, with the caliper off the bike, in the air higher than the master, to allow any air trapped in there to flow upwards, with the 2 bleeders facing upwards, doing the one opposite the line first, if this doesn't work, i will be shipping chaos a new set-up asap, and whatever else it takes to make this right, and him another very satisfied customer, as i always do

awk has the best costumer sevice ever whenj i got my gsxr brakes with i didnt buy from him and they didnt work guess who came to my house to fix them when they stoped working because they didnt come with a master cylinder bracket and couldnt get it linded up guess who hooked a bro up with one when i neeeded help jeting it gues who was there to help out when i needed to do a leak down test and compresion test guess who was there again sry to crowd up the thread just figred id let everyone know awk is awsome guy and i two use dot 3 brake fluid not one problem

/\/\/\ my man !!!!!! still gonna throw me over the fence for the gay neighbor ?????

ya,AWK is one of a kind. Never got to meet him in person yet but would love to. It's hard to find good hearted people like him that's willing to help people he don't even know. It's an honor to have him on this forum.

I use Dot4 only cause that's what I had. Never had a problem with Awks set-up and yes his customer service and hospitality are A++++++++++! Now get your ass back to PA!
