atv police encounters/ chases

I have been caught many times when I was younger. One time they took my bike and charged me 180 bucks to get it out.So my dad said eff them go in the garage while I distract them and start it up and ride right out the shop.Anyways got the bike without paying and later got a call from the po po's and my dad told them to go eff themselves. That if they had a problem come down to were we live on private property and we can settle.Needless to say nothing ever happened.Just remember it isn't illegal till you get caught. So run till you can't run any more.IMO the cops better be ready to throw down before they yake my bike.Braapbraap95 this is your town cops I am talikng about.Happened like 11-12 years ago.

Where I did live, (Jackson County, Wv) you can ride up to 5 or 10 miles on an atv on the berm, Not Motorcycles though, and you must have your License and have a helmet. If your 18 you dont have to have a helmet though. Well 2 days before my 18th birthday I thought I'd ride my xr100 up to the store on the berm, well I got about 100 yards from the store and seen a State Trooper pullin in, so I locked up the brakes hopin he didnt see me. Well thankfully he didnt see me, but the passing DNR officer did lol, I didnt see him and when I turned to go back home he came across the lanes and got me. I had an expired learners permit, so I got a ticket for Expired License and no helmet. And thankfully he let me push the bike home instead of towing it. The ticket ended up being only $5 for each charge, bad thing, court cost $162 PER CHARGE. I ended up with a $330 ticket that I have to pay by February of this year.

you get off easy with a ticket, we get our bikes confiscated and then crushed with no hope of getting it back. then they give us tickets and community service. But the worse thing is a few miles from my house there is a 25mile square disused quarry called the "Desert" and the police have made it illegal to ride there, they have officers on honda crf450r dirt bikes patrolling it and 4x4 jeeps and stuff. they also have a helicopter that can follow you with thermal cameras so if you run for it they can track you at night and if you go in the woods.

The property i go to and ride a few times a year is slowly starting to be fenced in and off so its limiting our riding space by alot. so one day they cops chased a few of the people we usually ride with. they got away thankfully. cops cant ride haha.

i always stop and talk to them like mature adults and they usually let me off with a warning. that and you dont have to worry the next month or two if they are ganna get you..

treating others the way you wanna be treated goes a long way IMO...I:I

In MA, allegedly if you register your quad you can ride a few yards or so down the side of the road from trail to trail. However, 98% of the land myself and my friends grwoing up were riding on was all private, either owned by us or our neighbors, we had permission....so why give the state money for something they have nothing to do with??? Anyways, I don't register! They jsut know who you are more easily!

I've been chased many times, gotten away every time I ran. I've been caught with no chance to run a few times, and every time I've been caught I've just been told to push it home....which lasted for about 5 minutes until they were gone, at which point I just started it back up and continued! BAck before I had my license I used to ride miles around town in the summer on the roads and pick up chicks and double or triple ride them around! Never got caught doing that!! I was pretty smart about it though and kept away from populated areas. Whenever it snows, we ride all over town on the roads, even go a few towns away!! Every now and then we cut onto the highway and once I was riding on the highway behind my friends cherokee, me on my 96 kdx200, and he was doing 95 and I was right on his ass! So that's how I know the kdx did 95 at least!

My brother got caught one time because he came out onto a trail near the gas station and he and my friend he was with whipped their quads sideways on some grass, and a cop saw it all, and they got the quads impounded and they had to pay over 100 bux to get them back! Even though it's risky, we still ride right up to the gas station and fill up from time to time. We even park behind the chinese place and (now that we're 21) get drinks!! BAck in the day we used to go in and get food covered in mud. They probably hated us!

The one time I got a real legit ticket I was just putting down the side of my own road, as cops had told me to do in the past, but this cop that hates me saw me and just wrote me a ticket for "unregistered motor vehicle" on the road. It was like 50 bux I think but it did go on my automobile insurance and my drivers record which I think is BS but I was young then and didn't fight it...I would now.

A crazy friend of mine who now makes a living doing bike stunts was beaten and arrested once for evading the police. He was on the road not far from his house, and all the cops know him very well becasue he's a crazy rider, and he whipped the banshee around on the dry road, with a car coming the other way. Well, that car happened to have a state cop in it, off duty, but he radioed into the town cops. He thought my friend was too close to him when he whipped the quad around...bit it was a banshee...it's damn fast, the guy wasn't going to hit him. Well, the cops came to his house, where a few of us were hanging out, they ruffed him up and arrested him. This is the same kid who rode the banshee, when it was brand new, to school, somewhere between a 3 and 4 mile ride, told the vp (dean of discipline they called him) that it was street legal and he was waiting for the plates in the mail, parked it in the parking lot and at the end of the day when most everyone had cleared out of the parking lot roasted the stock tires off infront of the dean of discipline and then rode home. He wasn't allowed to drive to school for a month after that, but not cop involvement. I could go on and on about this kid...he's lost his license so many times it's hilarioius! Best driver/rider I know though.

You gotta know what you can and can't get away with, and I agree, it's not illegal until you're caught. If I'm crossing the road or going from trail to trail and a cop sees me, I'm not going to stop and talk to him...I'm gone. If you're between properties that you have permission to ride on, what are they gonna say??

got caught yesterday fillin the blasty up at the gas station. when it was snowing. he pulled in yesterday with a black dodge durango. we talked for like 3 min. i asked him a few questions about riding and places and streets. he told me to get home. asked wat street i lived on and thats its. not too bad. was a lil spooked tho. lol. well they should relax a lil in bad road conditions. like snow. i saw a few bad accidents on the roadway that just happened. i asked the drivers if they were alright and sh*t. and i told the cop wat i did. and asked him if i could traverse that accident prone street and he said no =(

Where I live, far away from city and where many of the roads are one lane or gravel, my dad and I ride sometimes. I never go w/o him, but we ride a good deal, because we like to visit neighbors, and theres a good river/creek down the road. My buddy has been caught on the side of the road and a turdknocker cop said he'd load it up (the bike) if he saw it again. My unle used to have an LT230 Quadsport, and rode the roads a lot. He said if you ever got caught, hit the dirt, and if availible, the woods. Unless yuor being chased by a Bronco Cop, which are uncommon, thats your best bet in some case.

What do you guys think is better? Riding on the "shoulder" of the road really slow until you get to were you need to go, or just go decent speed on the actual road?
(There not main roads, with like street lights and everything, just side streets kind of)

ki ride on the roads all the time in indiana and was on a raptor 660r crossin the tracks and he just waved, all the cops are real cool one time i was in town and saw a cop and just turned around and booked out he didnt do anything, now if i was doin 100 like i usually am down the road they might get pissed, but every one here rides on the street or the side of it there are actually miles of trails that go from a town over to like 10 towns over
