Are blasters really this slow?????

I would say a 300ex would totally eat this thing alive.I mean by multiple lengths. If that helps any..I'm really disappointed in it to tell you the truth.

Yes i bought a complete used topend all parts are off the same quad.Wiseco piston and rings and honed cylinder before install.Ring gap was around .020

Yeah it might be slow compared to a 250R, but a Blaster doesn't even start to make real power until somehere after 3500+. It shouldn't give out til at least 8000. Don't give up yet, something's holding you back. One thing to consider for the future, assuming you get it running right, is a 14-tooth front sprocket. Just like the motors are seriously detuned by the factory, the gearing is a bit slow - goes with the whole entry level quad designation.

It sounds like you are talking stock exhaust (which sucks) but what about the intake side? Running these with the airbox lid on SERIOUSLY restricts airflow. Don't forget a bigger jet to go with it, too.

You got something going on with it. Just dont know what it is... I wouldnt of used the same rings... I probably run 4 or 5 300ex and they get sh*t on... With my slight mods i lose about 4 lenghts on a piped, jetted 400 ex in a drag...

It still has the stock pipe on it.I already cleaned carb.Filter is in ok condition.Arebox lide has about 8 holes drilled in it from previous owner.I'm curious about this,When i cleaned carb I always thought there was a tan piece of plastic around the main jet but this one didnt have one.Could that be a problem?I also think if it was running lean it would rip instead of runnin like crap.Should i put the 230 jet back in it?I'm just lost with this thing..I've owned all kinds of dirtbikes and quads and this one is by far the biggest PITA!

Ya know, I just put together a used top end for my old 89, "used everything" but honed it first, and it runs ok, not a lot of compression, but it revs.

I think 4cfed has the best idea. I would be looking at that carb. Main jets seldom plug entirely, but the holes in the emulsion tube are tiny, and pilot jets plug all the time.....

when i put my carb back together i cracked that stupid plastic peice so i never put it back in.. didnt effect it at all

yup... cleaned a carb on a lt230 it was so plugged i had to run a small piece of wire threw the pilot to clean it out, ...

your carb can never be to clean!!! i always get two cans of carb cleaner, clean everything out, and make sure carb cleaner wil flow thjrew all passages and opening in the carb, even the vent holes

You are right about the plastic piece on under the main jet. I think it is called the main jet ring.

i had the same prob when i bought mine took the tors off and it idled alot better or it seemed took the airbox lid off and it ran pretty damn good just the jetting was off so i put the lid back on and took the little snorkel off the airbox and changed to a new plug and holy sh*t raped ape would be behind me really surprised me. i think the biggest thing was the airflow try without the lid....are you letting it warm up all the way i know mine runs like sh*t for about 5 mins or so

Take your time and be patient with it... Youll figure it out. I actually pushed mine in the creek next to the house one day and left it for about two days, called my buddy that sold it to me and cussed him out. Two days later i pulled it out bought a service manual and now its my pride and joy...

Ya like 3 wh33ler said check the plug too, make sure its the right one and gaped correctly.... Also take the tors off and make sure the clutch isnt slipping...

You def want to put the 230 back in, especially if you have holes in the airbox. With the extra airflow, a 250 or 260 might not be too much.

I have not ran my blaster yet, still waiting for my new engine to get here, but have jetted many things in my short life, and 220 is WAY WAY too small, even with the stock pipe on there, you said the airbox had holes in the lid letting more air in, with this setup you should never need a smaller jet then stock... Try a 240 or 250 to start with and do plug chop to see where your at... I:I

You will get it right eventually and have lots of fun on your quad, dont work on your machine when your frustrated or pissed off it never ever help the situation, trust me i have more anger issues then most people here LOL :D

the 88-89 blasters had a 220 main stock then they went to a 230 main in 1990+..
that plastic ring around the main prevents the gas from sloshing around next to the main jet..
