Alright,I bought a 2004 blaster to fix up.It ran like crap when i got it so i tore it apart to find the intake side of the piston broken off..Well I didnt find any chunks and it looks like someone stuck it in there just to sell it cause it's got a new hotrod crank and rod in it.So I honed cylinder and replaced the piston.Installed new vito's reeds.Quad has stock exhaust with 220 main jet.It started up but wouldnt idle or rev up.Researched this and found the parking brake sensor was keeping it from reving up.Unplugged it and fired right up and reved up too.I thought cool so i got it out to ride it and holy crap it's slow.Just dosnt seem to rev out like it should. 1st and 2nd gear are terrible and it wont idle.It will free rev good but just seems like it dies when you put a load on it.At this point im ready to role it out in theyard and burn it.Would it be the T.O.Rs acting up on it?I was gonna remove it but seems like no one has a straight answer on doing it on a newer one.I'm lost and need help before i get the cutting torch out..
Thanks

by the sounds of it no..... which means the rings arent set yet, causing low compression..

here is a vid of my 2001 stock blaster... had boysen reeds no lid and a answer silencer... so pretty much stock yet.

there is a proper break in proceedure ya know 3-4 heat cycles and take it easy for a tank of fuel...variing the throttle

Proper break-in is a plus....but just for the heck of it, why don't you disconnect the TORS too? It is very easy on a newer model. 1) Just unplug the carb from the harness. 2) Cut the wires going up to the throttle switch and connect them together (harness side); solder or crimp them for a good connection.

On my '04, just disconnecting the throttle switch wouldn't allow it to run at idle (electrical cut-out).

wife 95? did the same thing.. im like wtf why wont this thing run.. hooke dthem back up and it ran..

I had to splice the two black/yellow ones from the throttle housing together like royalt67 said.... my carb is still hooked up though.
I also had to dissconnect the parking brake wire from the cdi when I removed it..

Interesting. I wasn't positive the carb had to be unplugged, but I replaced the carb and had no where to plug it into anyway. Disconnecting the parking brake switch was a must, tho. That drove me berzerk for a week or so. Runs like a RAPED APE now.

Aright here's the deal.I replaced the top end on because of the piston.I bought a complete topend cylinder, head and piston from a buddy of mine for 60 bucks.I honed the cylinder before installing it and reused the piston and rings.I also ran it through 3 heat cycles just cause.Trust me it wasnt wide open the first few times cause it wouldnt do it.Just so you know this is just a toy my quad i usally ride is a 1988 trx250r..So maybe thats why im thinking it's slow.I just thought it would be alot faster than what it is.I'm gonna try unhooking the tors tommorrow evening for shure. It just wont get out of it's own way.It feels like it never really gets into the powerband at all.Just revs to like 4 grand and stays there.Keep tuned in cause there just might be a blaster vs torch thread coming.Unless someone wants to buy it.It's in pennsylvania and can be yours for 900 bucks...Thats about what i have init so far.

When i bought my used 1989 blasty, i rode it home from my buddys house about 7 miles. Well it smoked like a freight train, had about 8-1 mix with bad gas, it had sat for about two years. It was okay but not super fast. I took it home changed the gas to 32-1 and totally cleaned the carb, adjusted the clutch, pulled it out and it dumped my ass. Anyways ya a blaster is fast, unless your used to riding banshees or something.
You might check compression, carb, jetting etc. A slipping clutch will make it seem slow, it will wind up but barely go...

The topend i bought didnt have a lot of time on it.I think one summer of occasional riding. No i didnt do a compression test.It doe's fire right up ..Just runs like poooo:o
