i have an 06 dont know if it's the same thing but mine will do just what your talkin about kinda like it's out of gas then you put it on reserve pull out the clutch start it up turn the gas back on and it will go on with no other problems

i know i know i just wish i could narrow it down more i dont want to just start throwing parts at it ya know. i have been a auto mech and a body man for a lil while but im new to the atv thing

Have you taken the carb apart and cleaned it. I had the same problem. I had good spark, good compression, new reeds, and it still wouldn't start. I took the carb out, put on a carb rebuild kit ($20), haven't had a problem since.
Check compression and see if a valve is stuck. Also make sure float is not stuck, and that you have the right mixture. Also make sure that the flywheel key is not broken, or that the spark plug is incorrectly gapped.

heyyy i got her started after i replaced the reeds and messed with it for a bit but i have another problem. it is bogging terribly at wot. i think some dirty may have fallen back down into the carb tho that was in the intake tube. let me know any suggestions. thanks

found the bogging problem. aparently when i put the main jet back in i overtightened it and came to find it broken when i took the carb apart. now to try and use a screw extractor to get the piece out thats broken in the carb and get a new jet
