I seem to have a fuel problem and I've tried everything I can think of. Two different carbs.

First off the compression is good and spark is good. 1st carb, took it apart cleaned it out still wouldn't start so I took another carb from a running blaster and hooked it up... it started dumping gas from the overflow so I checked the float and it was good cleaned the bowl and put it back together. Still will not start but it's not dumping any more fuel.

Both carbs I have poured fuel into and it started up as long as I held the throttle wide open.

Any more advice on what to check? This thing is racking my brain.

Check your reeds. When you say good compression, how much compression?

^Definately check your reed cage.^ Also, I'd be sure that you don't have a torn carb. boot, a blown cylinder base gasket, or a main seal that has sustained damage. If the crankcase has an air leak present somewhere, the engine will still run, but it won't idle worth a crap. Also, the engine will become very difficult to start without 'assistance' from a shot of juice. X(

This happens because the carburetor is only effective at delivering fuel if it gets a steady vacuum pulse, or 'signal' from the engine. Air leaks weaken or even cancel out this pulse. You can kick a leaky 2-stroke 'till the kickstarter breaks and you're blue in the face. It won't do much good.

Compression was at 118. I looked at the reeds. They are not broken but the corners are not resting perfectly flush. That might be the problem but I didn't think it would stop it from starting.

Carb boot is good, I did check that. I'll try to do leakdown test tomorrow and see what I come up with.

i would do a top end thats low compression.
