American pickers.

i do every now n then, lot old folks in my neighbor hood here are always having yard sales, i bought an original Mauser rifle from some oldtimer who picked it up off the streets of berlin during the final days of wwII, had 60years of rust on it so i picked it up for 25bucks and re-blued it myself (despite gun collectors urging me not to because it would destroy the value but i dont care i just collect for myself, not profit) it looks like a million bucks now and still shoots great even though 8mm mauser ammo is a pain to find these days.at another yard sale some guy used to be a biology teacher in the 60's and had jars with preserved specimens like deer fetuses and brains, pretty cool stuff for cheap.. the things i have collected probably arent worth much monetarily but the stories they come with are priceless

Never much of a picker, but i have watched the show many times, amazes me how much some rusty old piece can go for, One time they went to Georgia, and this old timer had barns full of old car parts and war items! Pretty interesting i have to say.

I look through old stuff at yard sales but I can hardly judge what is worth anything. Still neat to see!

hehe,,,,,my wife and I have beeen doin this sh*t for years......lots of barns and good ol'boys etc living on the same land for generations here in remote north Idaho. The show is cool kinda but wrecks it for us who have been doing it. Now people are less likely to let you see their sh*t because of the amount of people deciding to just pick it up as a hobby and goin out botherin everyone with a barn they see. Your cool....you don't live anywhere near me, but on the flip-side as well sellers see it and think they can get outrageous prices for their goods..

Junkin anin't new by any means but shows like pickers are ruining it for those who have been doing this for yrs, it also drives down the prices selling as now everyone with something old thinks it's worth something and it saturates the market.

I could show some cool ass pics of sh*t I've scored.......maybe I'll take a few and post em up.....I have a really cool item we scored about a month ago that I'm looking for a buyer for.......
I'll take some pics you guys will think this its cool

I don't go that far. Just yard sales........

it all starts with yard sales......lol, don't get me wrong, I think it's cool, just a lot of dumb-asses out there. It makes me wonder why those guys would want to televise what they do and basically give the idea so that they face more competition.....they obviously have a lot of connects but still kinda defeats their own tactics

Often you see the people that invite the "Pickers" enjoy their 15 minutes of fame. Possibly an evil genius kind of mentality for the pickers.

Living about 30 miles from these guys it's fascinating to see the "Rock Star" kind of status they have at their open houses.

I'm convinced the reality shows haven't scratched the surface of obscure occupations.
