Airbox lid Off?

depends on what kind of riding you do. personaly i have mine off and i do sand, dry trails, wet trails, some deep puddles(slowly cuz the blaster has like no fenders lol) and some muddy areas and i dont have problems.

now if you do like CRAZY mudding in like deep mud and deep water, leave it on and put some holes in it with screens in the wholes.

i run mine with out the air box lid and i go in the mud all the time .. i rinse my filter off after like 2or3 rides cause it get pretty dirty ..

Outerwears makes a piece that replaces the air box lid.. It allows more air flow, but keeps alot of the dust, dirt, and small amounts of water out. Or you can get an air filter outerwears that fits snugly around the filter itself.

i have heard that if u keep it off it will blow your motor is that true??

This will happen only if you don't rejet your carb. Removing the lid allows more air into the carb/motor. We know an engine needs the right combo of air & fuel to run correctly, so if you add more air (by removing the airbox lid) then you must add more fuel (by re-jetting your carb with a bigger main fuel jet).

If you just remove the lid and don't re-jet, then yes your motor will burn up the piston from running too lean.

There was a thread exactly like this floating around not 2 days ago... I thought this was the same one. Good lord I'm lost... ANYWAY

DO NOT just go pulling sh*t off your bike. Don't go just adding sh*t to it either. Yamaha designed this to be a relatively well performing, reliable machine. For every 'MOD' - there is a 'SUPPORTING MOD' so to speak... mostly just fuel related but you will see...

MOD - EXHAUST/INTAKE
SUPPORTING MOD - CARB RE-JETTING

MOD - MAXXED OUT PERFORMANCE
SUPPORTING MOD - BRAKES!!!!!!!

Cheers!

i took the lid off my 06 bone stock well i got new rear tires but that duzent realy count but any ways i had lid off last summer and i went for quite a few realy dusty rides and all the sudden it stoped running so i cleaned the filter and it wouldent start by kicking it so i pulled it behind a truck and poped the cluch while it was in gear and that got it running idk if it just got to hot runing a bit leaner or if dirt got in the motor

sorry if theres any spelling mistakeshttp://www.blasterforum.com/images/smilies/thumbup.gif

This thread is a yr old and judging by what you said if you didnt rejet after the lid was removed you probably fried you top end. It was run too lean.

X2, but actually it sounds like you got lucky and overcame a mildly seized motor. If it now starts by kicking then you will be OK for a while, but you MUST rejet that carb. Go up a couple sizes on the main jet or put the lid back on. You might want to do a compression test to assess the motor's condition.
