Can you get air filter oil at carquest or advance auto or any of your local parts stores?

I use k&n filter oil in the aerosol can, works fine for me, and I had it lying in the workshop for a long time already.
Normal engine oil will also do, (its actually whats recomended in the manual) but its a bit thicker than the k&n oil, thus causing more restriction.
What you want is the dirt to cling to the oil, thus preventing it passing through the filter.

Mmm, im actually quite curious how ATF fluid will do as air filter oil... its very thin... mind you, it looks very much like the k&n oil.

DO NOT USE ANY OIL EXCEPT WHAT IS SPECIFIED FOR THE TYPE OF FILTER YOU HAVE !

foam filter oil for foam filters.
K&N style for those and other gauze filters.
They cannot be mixed n matched.
PERIOD.

And anything other than filter oil lacks the adhesion gualities required to trap dirt.
One application of foam filter oil and you'll see just how sticky it is, and does an excellent job trapping dirt.
The same cannot be said for the K&N style oils.
