Got the new blaster up and going and am going to take it to the river tomorrow before dinner but im a little paranoid on the jetting i had a 280 in it and had it out a little earlier today and with the cooler temps (45 here) i bumped it to a 300 do you guys think a 300 is too much for a mildly modded blaster at those temps?

Ive not had it going long enough to do a plug chop and thats on the agenda tomorrow but i want to know im at a safe starting point dont have the cash to redo it because of something simple as a jet change.Temps im riding in are ranging from 45-60 day to day.My mods are a fmf gnarly,dg silencer, boysen reeds in the stock cage, twin air filter,BR9ES plug, stock carb 300 main, jet needle mid clip, tors elim, oil inj. removed 32:1 premix 93oct,cometic gaskets.

Just sitting in the drive it revs clean and crisp and ripping up and down the street it revs clean hits power band pretty quick and pulls descent.

What you guys think 300 too big?Im looking to be a little rich to be safe.

i think drop the br9es and and go to the cooler br8es. i would normally say a 300 is too big but you are running a 240 correct?

if not id drop to the 280.

That will be fine just keep an eye on the plug if you don't do a plug chop. Worst case you foul one so maybe bring a spare with you..but do the plug chop and then you will know:-)

/\ that

and the b9 plug is a cooler plug than a b8, but i'm curious why a 9 ???
an 8 will run hotter, meaning the insulator of the plug runs hotter, not the entire motor, and the 8 will have less chance of fouling
take an extra one, or 2, and wrench and you'll be fine

The 300 is dead on!

Ran great today even pulled mine home a couple miles.

Should i not be running the BR9ES and switch to the BR8ES?It starts first kick, revs smoothly in neutral or with a load in gear im kinda leaning towards leaving well enough alone unless you guys think it would be beneficial to change it out?

Unless you listen to the radio whilst you ride you do not need an r series plug, they have a built in resistor to stop radio hash.

Use a plain and simple b8es.

br9es is the wrong heat range and can cause plug fouling.

One heat range colder when the plug looks dead on for jetting?

i know the "R" is the resistor but thats what the local shop has.

I think with the reading im getting the plug/jetting are spot on thanks tho.

You can think all you like, but it could be costly!

It is the wrong thing to do to jet to suit the wrong heat range plug.

The motor should be jetted with a plug of the specified heat range, otherwise plug chop readings will be false.

There is no way you can fool the combustion process into burning correctly, by using the wrong heat range plug, but be it on your head if you think you can.

Why bother asking, sure beats me!!!!!!!

You mild mods call for the stock specified b8es plug, there is absolutly no reason for a b9es to be used.

To get the optimum performance from your motor it must be jetted correctly.

Too lean, it runs hot, br9es dissipates combustion chamber temps to the head more quickly therefore a lean condition may show as ok on plug tests.

Too rich and the br9es will not get to operating temp and therefore will tend to foul.

Running the motor too cool can accelerate wear and cause gumming of rings and excessive carbon buildup in the ports., and on the piston.

If you have done your heat cycles, re tensioned head and jug, and run 2 tanks of gas at no less than 3/4 throttle, do a plug chop with a b8es, change jets to rectify air/fuel ratios and all will be well.
