I'm sure it probably doesn't mean much but I was just wondering if this normal. If I move the handle bars slightly I can feel the steering column move but the tires don't steer. The play is about a 1/16th of an inch which isn't that much and I only notice it when it is parked. Any ideas?

Thanks, Joe

I have the same problem ! I think there is a rubber bushing or something that holds it in but im not sure till I tear it apart and see for my self. Gonna watch and see what kinda answers you get :D

yuppers guys u need new rubber bushings for the inside....ive made my own outta thin rubber strip, they last alot longer than the stock ones

Sounds right to me. Im lookin at this break down and see Oil Seal. Would this be what were talkin about? 2 of them Goes in the bearing and collar?

the upper steering mount on my sons was worn past the rubber and wearing into the plastic, yes thats plastic with brass inserts, so a new/used one from ebay for $6 fixed that
then i notice play on the inner tie rod ends, found nice used 04 ones for $19, had to drill the one old one out, only to see its the bottom of the steering stem where the tie rods go in thats worn, so i'll be makin a thread for a steering stem wanted soon
so check both places

update.......just bought an 05 stem on ebay for $25

there is no bearings or bushings for that matter, it just rides in the plastic steering stem mount, and the rubbers are to hold the grease in and water out, i guess you could call the whole thing a bushing

just order a newer (03+) used one on ebay, i just saw some for under $5, or new rubbers from bikebandit if you cant see wear in the "bearing" hahaaa, look at the little lip from the top and bottom, it should be equal the whole way around
