I need some help getting my blaster running right again.

I just started it up for the first time in about 3 months (was running perfect last time ridden) and figured that I would be cleaning the carb either way.

It started ok and ran ok but a little rough so I pulled the carb like I have done in the past. Cleaned out the parts and spray carb cleaner through all ports and openings with no problems. Pulled the reeds and made sure they were good to go. Also ran old gas from tank and added fresh gas. Changed out plug and put all back together

It started on third kick and adjusted idle just a bit and went out for test ride.

As soon as I hit the throttle it sputters and bogs bad but when I let go of the throttle it still idles just fine.

Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

Have you checked the parking brake, Just a thought. I know some kill the ignition when engauged which could explain the bogging.

No back fire and the brake is off.

I just finished pulling and cleaning again to make sure that I did not miss something the first round.

It runs pretty good until I really punch the throttle, that is when I start to loose rpms and it slows down. I can get it going again if I down shift into third and let off the gas a bit then it will take off and go again.

I am pretty sure at this point that it is running rich. I did check the new plug I put in and it is black.

I have the screw on the side of the carb out 1.5 turns and adjust the knurled screw for the idle adjust to a nice low idle speed.

Is there any other adjustment to be made to lean it out a bit or is it time for a carb rebuild?

Update

I went to the parts shop today and picked up a carb kit and changed all parts except the needle.

The main jet before parts change was 280 so I went with that too.

Running much better now, but it still hesitates just a bit when I really punch it.

I will try a 250 main tomorrow and will post.
