Well it is off topic,

Been smellin a electrical burn smell for about a week, this morning get into the car and still smells like that. I start it up fires right up , but sounds weird, like a leaf in the blower motor weird, but the blower isn't on. So i let it warm up a bit and a little bit of smoke coming from under the hood, shut it down, pop the hood and looks to be coming from the alternator, Take the belt off, it spins freely, no binding, haven't had a change to test it yet as the weather will not cooperate for me, while I hada moment put the nose to work, and smelled burning still coming from max fuse/relay panel, popped that off to see a 12g purple wire on the #3 (what i call it) relay, burnt. have a haynes manual but it doesn't tell you what relay does what, go figure. If anybody can help me figure out what this relay controls, I'd appriciate it! I now Brando probably does, I'll have to light the brando signal...- Bob I take a pic of it as soon as the rain stops..

does it look like the purple wire should be there?

maybe it is a wire for a sound system that was left in there?

i would fix the wire with some shrink tubing or some electrical tape and see if that takes care of it. is anything not working? like is the relay going bad?

It was getting pinched or just bad/old wiring and the current caused it to heat up, just get some new wire and get it in there. Always use die-electric grease when doing wiring on vehicles, by the way I love Bonneville's. I had a 92 Bonneville SSI, for a month before my bro crashed it but that car was awesome.

Ok alternator is bad putting out 0 volts and the plastic finns are cracked don't know if that matters, so i just went and got a reman one from napa, all good, However that relay is working, everything on the car works, don't know if the bad alt caused that or not.

The wires are not touchin anything, it's all plastic where they bolt to. I'm gonna have to get a new plug eventually, that heated up enough to distort that one terminal, but all connections are good... just would like to know what relay that is for, damn dealers around here wont help ya out!
