traded my 250x for a 83 datsun 280zx turbo 5 speed tonight, needs a lil body work and paint, and tune up, fine what ever i got stuff for body work and black primer from the olds..
take it for a test drive around a few blocks, seems to drive fine, tight suspension, no clunks.. but has amiss fire, fine he said it needed a tune up, so i do the deal,

get gas 3 blocks from his house, make it 2 more and get pulled over for broken tail light and no registration, cop says he gonna give me fines, if i dont correct the stuff in 10 days i have to pay the fines, i talk him out of them since was gonna do body work and paint before i drove it again ( keep in mine im 45 min from home) so italk him outta the fines and i get writen warnings woohoo!!!

so i go to get on the highway, car sputering alil but boosting good and clutch feels good.. go to shift into 5th and WTF no 5th gear!!! fine whatever there a borg warner t5 same as mustang or camaro there cheap no biggie.... wellllllllllllllll temp gauge dont work fine what ever... the oil pressure gauge works, and also has a oil temp on it so i just keep a eye on the oil temp..... next thing i know the oil temp shoots to max! so i pull off the highway and shut it off...

let it sit for 20 min and go to start it and it wont start.... check oil.. guess what... blew the f*ckin head gasket!!! keep it mine the second the temp shot up i shut it off and coasted off the highway.... well i try to re start it to and it wont start.. cranks and pops and sputters.... and huge clouds of smoke blowin outta the exhaust.... yup you guessed it.. a lil bit of fuel smoke with alot of coolant smoke!!!!

tow it home with the truck,

im kinda pissed cuz i was gonna give it a tune up do the needed body work put it in black primer and flip it for 2 grand..... ( if you know what a280zx turbo is you know what there worth.... so here i sit with a smoked head gasket...

do i try and off it as it sits? or do the body work and prime it than flip it needed mechanical work???

i could fix it but i hate doing mech work unless its my daily driver... i could put a 350 or a 5.0 in it since the trans is the same just prob need to swap bell housings...

im thinking craigslist it to trade for cash or a quad or dirt bike or trike..

I guess, but it is an 83, now its blown up so i think are you going to have to put more into it that it is worth to sell it for a decent price.

4cfed, seriously. Throw a 5.0 in it and find a mazda rx7 rearend (shortened 9 inch ford). That would be one badass f*cking car, plus last I knew you were unemployed, so you could work on it everyday.

i usedto wheel and deal like this all the time for extra money, was working full time and would pick up cars and sell them for a few hundo more than i got them for, was a easy way to make cash, im trying to get back into it

first off...its a 280z, there is no x, the 240 and 300 was where they took it to the next level of using zx..when datsun became nissan, well here is my thought, you did not only fry ur head gasket but when you first got it, you had a bent valve, that causes misfire, also you most likely spun the bearings in ur turbo. me i would not do that to a classic car, put a 5.0 in it? why? fix the head gasket, which will be a biotch! new turbo UPGRADE t66 i would reccomend, put a cat back, then sell it for like 3 grand, when you only have about 600 in it, jmo bud, u have a classic car and rare because it runs, well ran, lol, think about it

actualy it is a ZX all badging on the car shows 280zx the zx replaced the 280z

Nissan 280ZX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nissan 280ZX (also known as the Datsun 280ZX) was a sports coupe produced from 1978 to 1983. It was the second generation Z-car, replacing the Datsun 280Z in late 1978. The 280ZX was the first time where the "By Nissan" subscript was badged alongside the Datsun logo, along with the Nissan trucks. The 280ZX was Motor Trends Import Car of the Year for 1979. The 280ZX was replaced by the Nissan 300ZX in 1984.
