4th gear info needed

Looking at a 2004 Blaster that has 4th gear problems. Says it won't shift into 4th/slips/skips. Looking for any info from anyone that has had simular problem and what it turned out to be. Supposedly new piston and crank (we all heard that before) I know a laundry list of possible problems, looking for real world experience. I:I

First thing Id prolly do is pull the clutch cover and have a look at the shift star. Its possible the prong protruding from it the shifter fork piece hits is damaged so it wont go.

If that isnt the issue then Id say case splitting time...

maybe a bent selector shaft? or dislodged shift fork?

Probably a bent shift fork...

Luni may also have it with the shift star not "fully" engaging 4th gear but if it hasn't been engaging 4th gear for a while, the output shaft needs to be replaced anyway. The drive dog is probably beat nearly to death.

Thanks all for your replies I:I . Did a lot of searching/reading yesturday and didn't come up with much, these trans are pretty much bullit proof. Would think that second would be most vulnerable.

Anyhow even tho it's an 04, and looks decent the guy wants a little to much for it. It could be something simple or it could need a complete trans. Seeing it's already had a new crank and bore either he's riding the snot out of it, doesn't know how to maintain it , or both .

Think I'll let it ride for now. Got enough to work on ,lol. If it pops up again I'll try beating him up on price, right now he doesn't seem to want to budge X(
