ok for starters i bought a 2000 yz 80 minus the front wheel and mounting hardware , and piston for 90 Bucks , my nephew used to race the Cobra 50 Sr's and has since moved up to the 65's , my older bro has a spare rolling frame ,im wanting to drop that yz 80 motor in it and have a SWEET lil play bike , anybody think im nutz or does it sound like it would be a fast azz like pit bike !!

yeah you're nuts, but that good kinda nuts, go for it, and keep us posted with pics and how it goes

yes the 50 with the kool decals RUNS amazing , its a Mod bike , maybe has 20 hours on it ,, btw the Cobras are automatic clutches and water cooled ,

do it that qould be sweeet..our 8 yr old rides ktm50...yup auto clutch is the weak link..bad ass for lil kids though..build it!!!will it fit in the frame though?

thanx all for the reply's and wanting to see this done , its goona take me a while , with work , my niece and nephew racing snowmobiles on the weekend and me working on them during the week , its goona take time and effort , but the finished product should be SWEET , ill post again when i get something done , Who knows when thatll be lol

u are nutz man, i kinda want to do this now, would it be nuts to put a yz 250 in a little mini bike? i kinda want to do that.

i say go for it haha but good luck cramming that motor in it and good luck keeping the front wheel on the ground you would have some serious fitment issues though lol

the cobra motor isnt That much bigger than the 80 , it only weighs about 12-15 pounds lighter than the 80 also , the fitment isnt gonna be too bad considering im having a machinist do all the fab work and welding , he used to mill 1 ton cranks 8 feet long for a living ,so im good with it going all together , the prob is , i gotta make a way for the 65 rims set that i have for it too !

ok one thing i learned with building a hybrid dirtbike... what size chain did the cobra use originaly (420,428,520)?? and what does the YZ 80 motor use?? ill answer the 80 question for you it was a 428.. so now lets say the cobra used a 420 you now need to have a custom 428 sprocket built to fit the cobras rim and a new chain.. my custom sprocket costed me $80 bucks for a junky aluminum sprocket.. im just telling you this as a warning that doing these swaps are not cheap

im just having a custom made front sprocket cuz its easier and cheaper ! , plus my buddy is doing all the hard work for me for a case of beer and a lil cash , I might not be starting the project until i get most of the parts anyway

if that cobra ran a 420 i would suggest going to the 428.. i wouldnt want a chain breaking and going through my cases.. if you dont have the motor sprocket and swingarm sprocket really close i would want that extra strength of the 428
