I just traded my car stereo for a 1996 Blaster. It's a good project bike and it's very clean. For starters, I want to do away with the oil injection without buying the kit/plate. The piston has a hole blown through the top, so I think the injection pump is broken. I also want to widen the stance a bit. I'll be buying new tires and rims. New exhast system as well. I'd be greatful for any help I can get from some of you Blaster veterans. Thanks.

Welcome to the site bro.. Pics please

You can make a plate to block it off your self. I just found out there is a member that sells them for 7.00. You have to disconnect the power wires to the pump disconnect the oil line to the carb. You have to get a little nibble to cover the oil line feed. You have to take the clutch cover off to take the oil pump gear out (white plastic one). I would take the pump out myself. cover the hole in the case where the pump went. remove the hoses from the case for the pump and plug them.

As for a better pipe there is a pipe review thread you can take a look. It should help you out.

For widening the stance for the front you could get extended a-arms or off set wheels.
For the rear you could get a extended axle or get wheel spacer.

+1 if your on a budget run spacers all around if not get a AM or a shee axle and some nice a arms

I would recommend getting your engine running like it should first. Put your money towards engine mods (reeds, pipe, maybe even new internals like crank, piston etc.) Then I would focus on the suspension and appearance.

Thanks for the ideas. As for the budget, it's limited until March when I go back to work, then I'll have all the money I want to play with. I already got the top end rebuild kit and it'll be running soon. Oil injection block kit and new pipe are first on the list I think. Anyone have a good link or advice on DIY for the inj block? That's my main concern right now and I can fab pieces if I need to. Might sound cheap, but I kinda like the satisfaction of doing my own work rather than buying the kit.

i purchased the 7 dollar plate, and it was the greatest 7 dollars ive spend on the blaster so far. for 7 dollars shipped, you prolly couldnt make it for cheaper. and the quality of it is awesome. especially if money is not a problem. you dont want to be mocking pieces up and redrilling, its totally worth it to not even have to mess around with it. last i checked they were 7 dollars shipped. all you do is pull the old gear and pump out, slap some yamaha bond on the back of this plate and put your 2 screws back through it. takes about 4 minutes compared to who knows to cut and recut and drill and redrill. burgard arms are nice for the front, def gotta do a shee axle. please dont do a fmf or dg exhaust no matter how good the deal, you might as well stencil dg into your stock pipe

Welcome! I'd take a blaster over a car stereo anyday :) Go through the brakes. Pre 03 Blaster brakes need lotsa care just to work poorly. Enjoy your new toy!

That's what I decided. $7.00 Block off kit and mix my own gas. I'm gonna try to hunt down the guy on here who sells them or has the link for the kit. I like to fab some of my own stuff but for $7.00, it's a no-brainer. I'm sureI'll find it but if anyone has a link off hand...
