I'm looking to put some money into the engine on my 2001 Blaster. It runs perfect the way it is, but I want more power and more top end. I'd like to be able to pop it up on two wheels in almost every gear on command. What are the best performance upgrades I can do for under $1000?

well u have quite a few options, u can go with the vitos 240 kit, 34mm carb, vf3's alum airbox, u will be right around 1k, if u can find used even better then u can have the 240 ported, sell the top end u have.

or- u can have the top end u have right now ported and head redesigned, 34mm carb, vf3 reeds, aluminum airbox, +3/4 swingarm, extended a arms, new shocks, this is if u buy used, which there is always deals on here for carbs, swingers, pipes, a arms etc, complete motors for 500, sh*t is endless...

personally no, i would go with 240 reeds exhaust carb and airbox, then when u got the money port the 240, stroke it extended swinger, a arms.

A ported stock jug will out perform a non ported 240. It's all about stretching your doller by hunting for good deal on used parts.

beg to differ, been there tested that, i smoked his ass on my stock 240....I:I

but its up to how u want to do down the road to, if u plan on going wild it would be better to get the 240 or if u just plan on staying stock jug go with the porting, bigger carb reeds etc, its all about what u want to do and future plans.

I'm thinking that porting, airbox, reeds, and stroker are going to be my upgrades, but I just want to know how much of a difference they'll make. Also, with the fmf powercore 2 already being on... should I even bother getting a different exhaust setup?

fmf is a decent pipe for mild porting but if u plan on stroker carb and going wild i would def upgrade to a better pipe, trinity, cpi, dynoport, alien, there is so many to choose from...

only thing about the 240 is forged pistons are supposedly becoming scarce again, i ran the cast in my last 3 and never had a problem and i was not easy on them either....

its all about what u want to do what u think will fit u best man, dont let anyone sway u one way or another, if u want to do bigger down the road and plan on keeping the quad and doing it all up, u wont regret the 240 one way or the other.

If I go for the 240, what else will go hand in hand with it? Also, I'm looking now and it seems like the kits they sell are for self assembly... should I take it to a shop to get it put in or is it pretty basic?

Your the only one that i have seen that has that opinion.

If in no rush, you can save the money back for a complete motor. Keep an eye out for a good part out. I've seen well built motors for $600-$700 .
