why do you think that yamaha didnt put in the 2 stroke 250 liquid cooled dirt bike motor off of the yz250 into the raptor 250 i mean it would have more horse than 15 i cant believe they didnt make something like this apex that is linked below but this 1 is a 4 stroke but it is out of the same bike ATV On Demand | Articles

still if u took the yz250 4 stroke motor that would still kick the raptors ass because the raptor only has 15 horse and the yz liquid cooled motor has 45 to 47 horsepower and thats just stock

COST

not everyone can afford a 6-8K quad

its simple
The other 2 strokes that were out in the 80's were crazy fast, dangerous and cost a lot.
Kids were getting hurt on these big bikes and law suits were being thrown at Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki etc .. it cost us all the the great 3 wheelers of the era and the 250R quads.

Yamaha saw a market for a low cost ATV, simple in design as an entry level machine. For performance they had the Banshee. Something that was easy for beginner riders and still fun for more experianced riders. Cost was a big issue to snatch up the market. Yamaha used 3 engines to develop 1 that way they could produce a lightweight, lowcost engine without re-tooling and spending millions on a new engine production line.
Thats what made the Blaster one of the best selling Yamaha ATVs of all time.

Thats why the chinese bike/atv market has gone through the roof. now anyone can afford a bike, hell for the cost of one raptor and antire family of 4 can each have their own machine... the ones that were looking for brand name machines had the Blaster.

a men you hit the on that right on the nail i would like to seee how bad the raptor would lose against a 250r i wish the 250r were direct fuel injection now that would be badass that would beat a yfz450 the older model anyway handsdown

i agree but honestly, id rather spend the wee bit more and get a pedigree bike. im sorry, i will not entrust my saftey and life to a mass produced, characterless, cheap and poor quality chinese bike. id rather buy a second hand japanese bike than any new chinese thing.

one thing i like about the 250 is that its manual. sort of a gap in the market as most others, ie the ltz250 are semi autos.

the trx250x's are semi auto also. the raptor 250 is a great quad for what it is. its not a race machine. the blaster wasnt either. its a great quad to step up from a 90 or whatever. most people dont want to go from a 90 to a purebred race quad and cost is an issue too.

the raptor 250 isnt liquid cooled but chassis wise it is amazing but motor wise they should have put the yz250 4 stroke liquid cooled motor because that has 45 to 47 hp stock put that in a raptor chassis and that would be a bike of the century the regular raptor 250 motor only has 15 hp and the blaster has 17 and those are stock

yeah but the 4stroke had more torque... peak HP is nothing without torque.

if they had of gone with the YZ250F ...again the price tag would have been way higher...
low cost has always been the selling point of the Blaster and 250 Raptor NOT performance.
it is an entry level ATV...nothing more. if thats not powerful enough you have the 350 or 450.

and the raptor 250 is a steping stone people need to understand that its not made to be the race bike of the century thats why the raptor 250 is the way it is not because they screwed it up because it was designed that way
