put a lowering kit on the blaster today but my yfz450 shock needs tightened to be stiffer so it doesnt sink so much with my fat ass on it. long story short only yamaha shop around here doesnt want to waste a minute of their time unless it involves selling a boat new utv or new 4x4 quad..... think the honda shop will set it a lil harder if i take it off and take it in?

Do it yourself. Loosen the top nut (jamnut) and then tighten the bottom nut (locknut) to stiffen the preload some. Then play with your compression and rebound settings to get it where you like it. Its not hard at all and depending on who's working at the Honda shop will be the difference if they decide to help you or not.

if it were only that easy it would already be adjusted. spent like 2 hours last night trying. bent the shock wrench and couldnt get a pipe wrench on it while it was on the quad so we unbolted the top and tried but the whole top of the shock turned

it should have two rings on the top, the top ring locks the bottom, soray some pentrsting oil on it, then get a long punch or flat blade screwdriver, make sure it is only on the top ring, and start hitting it with a big hammer.

YUP !!! that should do it... and if that doesnt work apply a little heat and get a big pipe wrench...a big enough pipe wrench and you can get anything off !!..lol

+1 That upper lock ring should come loose real easy with a pop of a hammer and screwdriver. If it's THAT hard even with penetrating oil, then someone really overdid it.

I hope you're not trying to turn both lock rings with the pipe wrench. One step at a time. Loosen upper lock ring and thread it up and out of the way, make adjustments by turning second lock ring or just spinning the shock, snug the upper lock ring back down against the lower.

lmao...WHAT ???..I know how to adjust a shock bro !!! getting the top ring loose is the easy part, unless its never been turned and its frooze up, and that sometimes happens........to adjust the bottom ring down to stiffen up your shock is a bit harder if ya dont have a shock adjutment wrench..sometimes it takes a pipe wrench or something to turn it tighter...theres allot of compression on those springs......and thats what i was getting at in my last post./

pipe wrench used was almost 2ft long but there was no room to turn it with it going through the frame. when we unbolted the shock so we could put the pipe wrench on and have space to move it, it just rotated the whole top of the shock. yes we also tried the shock wrench and yes we tried only one ring (top one)

im praying i can get it to work because i love the ride of the yfz shock but its just to tall without the lowering kit and any time im going down hill at all it makes it feel like the hill is 10x steeper because the rear shock has me leaned forward. i really dont want to go back to stock tho and really cant afford a $500 works shock or 900 elka.

your gonna have to take the shock right off it bro...put it on your bench, use one wrench to stop the shock top from spinning(or a vice if ya have one) and another wrench to adjust the bottom ring....
i put a little piece of carboard between the wrench teeth and the shock top because its only aluminum and ya dont wanna marr it all up, ya know...
most the time its just easier to take the shock right off the bike to work on it...
