What would be a good starter quad? What should I look for? I'd like to buy him a newer Raptor, yes the small one lol, wife thinks not. I'd prefer Yamaha but I'm open. Even considered a jap quad thinking he'd out grow it in a year but they have no resale value. Electric start a must, 2 stroke would be nice for easy maintenance, but does it matter? AND it would go with us to Glamis so it needs a little power to cruise around the trailer. Any ideas?
Now wife throws in the mix how about a dirtbike, grrrrrrrr.
Oh he's an average 7 years old and athletic, no couch potatoe.

Just find him nice bone stock blaster no a few DIYs and boom hell be set gotta learn how to kick start one day anyways correct and you can findem pretty cheap and they are cheap for parts and mods as he gets older too make it even better :) BTW I have a 8 year old nephew who used to ride mine and it had alot of goodies.

That was a thought I had. I'm still new to Blasters myself, can they be detuned? Meaning can the throttle be adjusted to only open 1/2 throttle or would I be chancing the cable falling off track? I could pull some timing out of it that would kill a lot of torque.

actually a 4 poke would probably best for a learner. the little raptors 80's are ok but not much power. just make sure the quad fit's him. don't think he's quite big enough for a blasty yet. that is the eziest way to get a kid hurt is puttin him on a quad too big for him.

I have a 2008 Honda TRX250EX and a 2008 CanAm DS250 that my 7 year old rides well. These aren't powerful machines but are capable of riding all kinds of hills and terrain with a simple gas and go. He checks all the vitals before riding evrytime but neither one needs anything but gas. I know 250's sound like too big but these are some that are not big on power and have plenty of room for growing into size wise. The Blaster eats them up. These are a couple of the deals I have come across to get quads for my whole gang to learn to ride.

Id go with a KXF 80 it's a 2stroke you can get aftermarket add ons it's really peppy, handles awesome and I'm pretty shure kawasaki still makes them in electric start and pull aux. for super cheap and even cheaper yet if you happen apon a nice used one for like $600 bucks

Searching Craigslist this morning and found a mint 2004 Honda 50 dirt bike for cheap, I might get that too. Those little 50's are always fun around the camp site, with a couple drinks they are even more fun. 8-|
