Where can you pick up a woodruff key cheap?

i get my keys from the stealership... all of a $1.49 each oem zuki keys and i know damn well a lt250r is wayy harder to gert common items for than a blaster.. just so happens the zuki is also a 3mm key

Did they have them in stock or did you have to pay extra for shipping, etc. The shipping is the crap I hate.

the first time i went they had 3 in stock, the second time i needed one they had to order them from zuki.. had to pay half up front for special order.. but i payed it all .. ooo 3 bucks lol.... and no extra shipping or anything

Well that's good to know. I'll have to check and see. I might just go with an OEM one if they have it in stock just for peace of mind......even though mine will work.

i was gonna get tooling steel and make a hand full of my own... i told ym self if i sheared one again i was ether making one from chromoly or welding the damn flywheel on lol

I've personally always found flywheel keys rather odd. One would think there would be a better system to put the flywheel on than a loose piece of cheap metal. :-/

pretty much, lol... they should be bolted on likea cars flywheel..

i sheerd 4 keys on my lt250r untrell i finally spend a half hour spinnin the flywheel on the crank with valve grinding compound ( arm was numb when done) and torqued it to 75 foot pounds instead of 65.. havent had a problem since

My biggest pain in the ass is aligning the key with the slot just to get the fuggin flywheel on in the first place. I think it slid up out of the slot last time and the flywheel wouldn't tighten all the way and it cracked the key and put a gash in it. It would probably still work, but it was somewhat chewed up even before then, so it probably merited replacement anyways.

I like the chromoly idea........it could save me 1 gram of weight too......gotta help that power:weight.

If your constantly shearing keys even one made of unobtainium won't help.
Your problem is the crank and flywheel aren't mating up correctly.
Do what Fed did lol

I've seen some cranks in my travels that had the key build into them.
Thats a pretty cool deal for guys like me who have cranks just laying around or go on 2 year engine builds haha.
I tend to stick the key to the flywheel so I don't loose it if it's gonna be off for a while.
I would suck the shear the key on a crank with the key build in though...

My key only sheared because it wasn't on all the way. I've never sheared any previously, although this one was already showing a little age from sitting in the crank grooves for the past 13 years.

That's why I prefer having a setup like on cars where the flywheel just mates to the crank with built in slots/bolts.........that sh*t aint shearing off on a Blaster........the flywheel will explode before those break. Only reason I can think of is potential crank/bearing failure if the flywheel has a catastrophic issue and that's why they chose a key........either that or manufacturing costs.

Several reasons for this system. First you can't put auto style flange thru an oil seal. The "shear" key is used to protect the crank if the engine stops suddenly. :o
