I had to retap the threads on my axle to fit the nut and pin to hold my hub/wheel. I couldn't fit the washer on..is the washer really necessary? and whats the worst that can happen?

Find a washer or it won;t tighten up all the way and it will ruin the splines on the axle if ran loose.
