Vitos or K&N?

I always use Uni-Filter... many people have other opinions though.. I liike uni it last for a good long time.. cleanable ...

But there are many other good manufacturers out there indeed!

i am using a k&n w/ outerwear and am having good luck with it. i was looking at twin air filters when i bought this one. i needed a filter to go to the dunes as mine had fallen apart and my local yamaha stores did not have any in stock (they said that they would have to order on- for one of the most popular atv's ever!). I started to call friends and builders in the area and the only one available was a k&n. i told then that i did not want one as i ride in the mountains, desert, and dunes and i had heard that k&n's sucked for dusty conditions. he told me that if you use an outerwear and properly maintain the k&n filter i will have no problems. he also told me that i would not need to rejet since i was replacing the stock filter and reusing the airbox lid. hope this helps- use whichever one you feel most comfotable with and have fun!

A Vito's is just a copy of a K&N, so I doubt there is much difference beyond price. So YOU choose.

I have a K&N which works great but I definitely need to get an Outerwears or K&N prefilter to control the large chunks and dust that come into my open airbox. Outerwears makes a rectangular patch that covers where the airbox lid goes, or both outerwears and K&N make a bag type that just covers the filter.

i ride in very dusty trails and there are some water/mud puddles
would it be okay for me to take off my lid and buy an outerwear with the prefilter?

You need a foam filter, chief. I've been a fan of No-Toil. Cheap, and they don't start to get flimsy till after about 15-20 proper cleanings. It's also very easy to pack away a pre-oiled foam filter in a baggie as a backup on ride weekends.

burnin to bad you paid 80.00 for it and i saw it on ebay for 80.00.i just ordered a outterwares just like that from ebay for 30.00 and just got a piece of metal for 10.00 and nuts, bolts, and washers for 5.00.so i made the same thing for 45.00

i know. i just do not have access to tools or the time right now to fiddle with it. i figured that i would buy one and be done with it. maybe i will make one for the other blaster.

An Outerwears is a prefilter, and a must in the dust. The kind of outerwears that goes where the airbox lid was will keep out water/mud just fine. The EHS lid is sweet but expensive. But whether you go with that or the cheaper versions, removing the lid and running a prefilter or using the EHS lid which amounts to the same thing, you are going to have to re-jet your carb to adjust for the extra airflow. More airflow is a good thing though....figure at least one jet size richer for an open airbox.

ok i just bought a k&n airfilter and a precharger for and open airbox. but it bogs out bad andy answers on why and how i can fix it?

My opinion, K&N and any other cotton pleated filters are absolutely worthless. Unless they are a very expensive filter that has MANY layers, they will suck in anything your throw at them. I have seen K&N filters WITH proper oil on them, suck whole sand grains through and destroy an engine. A foam filter is MUCH better and safer.
