well my usb ports are not reading anything i plug in and keeps saying on of the usb devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. already tried the delete and reinstall. anything else i could be missing? or are the just broke and wont ever work again? im willing to try anything, under device manager the pci to usb controller it says its working properly but when i plug it into the usb port under the device status it says no drivers are installed for this device when i plug something in but when is unplugged it says its working properly

thanks for the help.

yeah it works with my other computers but my one laptop, i have tried everything i know, i have disabled, reinstalled, i think they just might be sh*t.

well i just plugged in a flsh drive after deleting and recovering them, now that works but now it is only my iphone/ipod it doesnt recognize. wtf? works fine on my other computers.

Well if they work on your other devices than I assume it would be the PC's USB ports are damaged. After a while of use the little prongs will tear, bend, or break off resulting in no detection from the PC. Or will be damaged by inserting the Male USB end into the USB port upside down and jamming it because it doesn't "Go in". You might want to get them replaced if you really need to use the USB ports on that PC.

EDIT: Didn't see this:

Don't know what the problem could be....

The HAL is damaged, it is part of the kernal in the OS. There is a particular registry entry that is hosed and will not recover under your profile. Try to create another user and log in as that user, creating a "fresh" profile based off of the default HAL. Once the new profile is created and accessed then test USB integrity with one of the faulty devices, ie: the ipod, etc. If this does resolve the issue than just copy your personal profile data from old profile to new, you can see the raw data at C:\documents and settings\"user".
This may resolve, or might be a bigger issue, which will result in either a "repair" of the OS, or worst case scenario a reload.
BUT, no hardware failure, your USB ports are fine. Keep in mind, in a windows environment, ALL hardware is software controlled, using drivers and the registry to "talk"...

not the first case i've seen, try a different ipod cord, they tend to fug up
