Blaster wont run after rebuild?! - Yamaha Blaster Forum

that was the original thread.

Ok, so we checked, and i do indeed have spark...so thats good.

ive tried starting it many times, and this is all i get

it was then suggested that im not getting fuel, and i should pull the carb off and check the float. So when disconnecting the carb, i turned the gas off, and pulled the hose off, and the remaining gas in the tube poured out, so i know theres no clog in the tank or line to the carb.

I brought the carb inside, took off the bottom to check the float, and it looked wet, and smells like gas, so there was obviously gas in there, and this is what the float looks like

isnt that what its supposed to be like?

if anyone can help me out thatd bee greatly appriciated, and ill rep for it!

That seems correct. When you take the carb off the boots, hit the throttle and see if gas drips out. When you opened the float bowl, was it filled with gas? It should be, unless you turned off the fuel and ran it dry.

It sounded like it almost started there. It kinda sounded to me like when I leave the exhaust plug in and try to start it....could a chip monk or field mouse have made a nest in the exhaust?

So you're trying to start it with the choke out, right?
Normally you don't want to give it gas while starting (when it's jetted correctly) or at least you should'nt have to, but try doing that and see if you get anywhere. Especially if you just changed the jetting during the rebuild, your probably gonna have to give it gas to start it and then mess with it until you can get the jetting and air right.

Also, what's the deal with the air filter? Is it clean?
It looks like you're inside there?? In the basement? If the air filter is dirty (or maybe you WAY over-oiled it?) that could be the problem. Since it's not all dusty out, you could try removing the filter, just to get the thing started.

hmmm interesting.

so you have spark, is it good spark? check your flywheel, make sure its still on the woodruff key and its not sheared. you could have a sheared key, but the flywheels still pretty snug on the shaft so the timing could be off or something along those lines.

hows the reeds?

is your tors removed?(it causes spark and ignition issues, but you should remove it to take it out of the list of possible issues)

how was it running before it stopped working?

the float bowl had no gas in it, it was just sort of wet, and smelled of gas.

The air filter could be the key, i bought a brand new stock one, and oiled it up pretty dang good. it said on the oil to spray it til oil is visible on all surfaces, and i know i oiled the heck out of it, so that could be the problem.

I am inside, it is in our garage, which has no mice oranything like that in there. i did buy the exhaust off a member of this site, but when i was shining it up, there was nothing blocking the silencer, or "mid pipe", and the pipe seemed fine as well.

After we finished the motor, it was stored inside, with a rag in each port (intake/exhaust) so nothing could have gotten in there.

The TORS is still on, but i have an 03, and i believe its built into the computer, so i have no idea how to remove it.

it ran great before i blew the piston.

there's your problem. open the petcock and make sure gas runs out. it should run, not just drip. if it runs out fine, its not the petcock. use carb cleaner on the gas intake tube on the carb, make sure when the floats are down you can spray it right in there and the carb cleaner will come out into where the bowl would be.

The bowl should be filled with gas not just wet. I would take the gas tank off
and take out the fuel valve and make sure nothing is clogging it or broken.

the problem is where your floats are it pushes up that little stop and i believe its stuck restricting fuel flow so take you floats of and take the stop peice and clean it and if you have an air compresor blow air down that hole to un clog it or use you mouth to blow hard. i had the same problem on a raptor with both carbs

i believe you have found my problem! Now how can i get the clog out? i sprayed carb cleaner in it, and nothing came out. so i stuck a tooth pik in and it felt like it was pushing something so i stopped pushing so i didnt cause more harm.

How can i get it out??
