Does it work to use ty-wire instead of the circlips for the rear brake?

Ty-wire will work on the brake disc/hub rubber dust boots, if that's what you're asking.

EDIT: Dang I gotta writing a book every post, there weren't any replies when I started typing this:cool:

I am not sure where you are using the ty-wire, I don't recall any circlip on the rear cable brake, must be for hydro brakes or the rotor. Either way it probably won't work as well as the clips that are designed for it. Circlips, E-clips, and such are pretty inexpensive.

Would I use some sort of stiff wire when in a pinch to get back to the truck, camp or wherever, absolutley. Would I use ty-wrap wire in place of the proper clip to make a repair, or get ready for an outing probably not.
If you do use wire to substitute, just make sure that you are prepared to deal with any possible broken parts or further damage if it comes loose carry some extra wire incase it doesn't last as long as you hope, and pick up the right pieces ASAP.

No one but you can decide how well a makeshift repair will or won't work, what could happen if it fails, and whether or not it's worth the risk.

Often the technique used to make a substitute or tempor are repair is as, if not more important than what you use to do it with. In past years I may have been king of the jury rig repair and if your careful it can be a lifesaver. But eventually I learned a couple things.

Don't use the wrong thing to make a repair unless:
The cost of the right part is more than any possible damage that could be caused by using the wrong thing.
It is the only way to get moving and out of the woods and back to civilization.
Just because your MacGuyvered repair is working at the moment, don't hold off on doing it the right way.
Remember Murphys Law and don't take unecessary chances, it will come back to bite you where the sun don't shine.

Just like I knew my cylinder was worn allowing some piston slap and my piston was weak from scoring associated with gunk, grit and watery mud getting in past an exhaust header leak. But I had put another 10+ hours on it after fixing the leak got comfortable and put on a high rpm pipe in place of a Low end pipe, sure enough first time I was rough on the engine and wound it tight, boom.

Now I am I the middle of a rebuild including splitting the cases and replacing the main bearings. I could have got by with a 55 dollar piston and a 55 dollar bore job, and opened up the cylinder a bit in the process. Now With the extra tools and materials needed to clean up and rebearing the bottom end it is going to cost me double to do the rebuild meaning new tires will have to wait.

But that's the choice I made, was it worth it? The extra time I rode cost me 12 dollars an hour, although I gained new mainbearings, a chance to properly seal a leaky case, do the shift star mod all of which I would have waited had I done the top end before the piston failed.

Peace ride smart

I mean will it work instead of the #6 and #7 if you look at a rear brake diagram on rockymountainatvmc.com . And those rubber dust boots is the "cover 1" right?

we've been thru this in your other thread searching for the clips, I told you to use ty-wire and that I have run without the clips on the dust boots
they are not that important, just keep the splines of the axle greased routinely.

Then i think I'll try it without the circlips.

If you realy want the clips and the boot, i have all new in package and will hook you up cheap. Otherwise the tie wire will work just fine..
